Tigers Fall in Series Finale Against East Carolina

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – While the Memphis offense got off to a hot start against nationally ranked Tennessee, the Volunteer's hot hitting overtook the Tiger's start and handed them the 8-4 loss.
Following today's game, Memphis moves to 13-20 overall.

How it happened:
- ECU opened the game with four runs scored between the first and fourth innings to take the early lead.
- Memphis got their first run of the day when Aliana Zavala hit a deep ball into right field the allowed Camryn Wineinger to score and cut the Tigers deficit to 4-1.
- The Pirates would add two more runs in the top of the fifth and another in the top of the sixth to extend their lead out to 7-1.
- Alexis Dale started a scoring frenzy for Memphis in the bottom of the sixth when she hit a sac fly into left field that allowed Wineinger to tag up and score.
- Dafne Mercado, the very next batter, would double to deep right-center field to send Presley Morris home and cut into the Pirates lead even more at 7-3.
- Memphis would add one last run after Sam Ibison grounded out to first base that allowed Hannah Bassham to cross home plate and make it a 7-4 game.
- The Tigers would get the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning but would fall short and suffer the 7-4 loss.
- Gracie Morton and Camryn Wineinger both recorded two hits today while Wineinger led all players with two runs scored.
- Zoey LeCompte got the start today while Hallie Siems finished the game with two strikeouts.
UP NEXT
- The Tigers will play in a single mid-week game at North Alabama on Wednesday afternoon beginning at 4 p.m.
- Memphis will then continue American Athletic Conference play next weekend with a series at Houston. Games are scheduled for Friday night at 6 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m.
