Tigers Early Runs Not Enough to Down #14 Tennessee

COLUMBIA, Tenn. – While the Memphis offense got off to a hot start against nationally ranked Tennessee, the Volunteer's hot hitting overtook the Tiger's start and handed them the 8-4 loss.
Following today's game, Memphis moves to 9-16 overall.

How it happened:
- Kendall Lee put the Tigers on the board in the top of the first inning when she hit an RBI-single to left-center field and brought Alexis Dale across the plate.
- The scoring continued in the top of the first when Taylor Smrt notched her first career homerun with Memphis when she homered down the left field line for a three-run shot to extend the Tiger's lead out to 4-0.
- Tennessee would add in runs in the bottom of the first, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take the lead and eventual win.
- Memphis would get another chance to score in the top of the fourth inning when they loaded the bases with a walk from Alyssa Dean, a Volunteer error for Hannah Bassham and a HPB from Zoe Adebayo. But, the Tennessee defense held the Tigers to no runs.
- Kendall Lee led the team with two hits tonight while three other Tiger players recorded hits – including Smrt's first inning homerun.
- Hallie Siems got the start against Tennessee pitching the full 6.0 innings with two strikeouts recorded.
- The Tigers host their final tournament of the season with the Tiger Classic this Friday and Saturday.
