Nov 03, 2021 | Women's Soccer
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After a shutout win over UCF in the American Athletic Conference Championship quarterfinal round, the Tigers will match up against the Cougars of Houston in the semi-finals on Thursday afternoon.
Memphis, who got goals from freshman dynamic duo Jocelyn Alonzo and Aubrey Mister, recorded their ninth shutout of the season after holding the Knights of UCF to just two shots the entire match. The Tiger's offense lit up for the second straight match after ending the regular season with a 5-0 win over then 14th ranked SMU last week.
The Tigers are now 12-4-1 on the season.
For the season, Tanya Boychuk has been the one of the Tiger's biggest offensive threats with six goals and two assists while Alonzo is right behind her with five goals and four assists. Mister, Saorla Miller, Grace Stordy and Haylee Spray have all recorded multiple goals this season while seven different Memphis players have all scored goals this season.
Kimberley Smit and Caroline Duncan have been integral components in the Tiger's defense this season; the center backs, along with the rest of the Memphis defense, have helped the team to nine shutouts this season and held opponents to just 10 goals in 17 matches.
In goal, Elizabeth Moberg has been the go-to for the Tigers. Moberg, who broke the program career shutout record last week, is currently tied for the program career wins record and has a goals-against average of 0.60.
Earlier this season when Memphis and Houston met, the Cougars caught a break in the 88' when Nadia Kamassah rushed Moberg as she went to clear and ball and caught the ball off her hip for her sixth goal of the year.
Houston (13-4-2) finished second in the AAC regular season and won their last three matches of the season. Kamassah leads the Cougars for the season with six goals while Zionah Browne has four goals and seven assists.
Mikaela Gracia has played all but one match for Houston in goal and made 43 saves in 17 matches.
Thursday's match is set to kick-off at 3 p.m. CT from South Florda, who is the host site for the AAC Championship semi-final and final rounds. Coverage of the match can be found on ESPN+.
The winner of Thursday's match will play on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 11 a.m. CT in the Finals.
