No. 4 Tigers Conclude Regular Season with Clashes Against UTSA, Temple
Oct 22, 2025 | Women's Soccer
SAN ANTONIO – No. 4 Memphis women's soccer travels to Texas to take on UTSA on Thursday night, October 23, at 7:00 p.m. before heading home for the regular season finale this Sunday, October 26, at 12:00 p.m.
Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+. The Tigers (13-0-2, 7-0-1) moved up to No. 4 in the United Soccer Coaches poll on Tuesday, the highest ranking in program history. They clinched their third consecutive American Conference regular season title with a 5-0 win last Sunday at East Carolina.
Ashley Henderson (seven goals, four assists) and Ai Kitagawa (eight goals, three assists) lead the way with 11 goals created a piece, while Flavie Dube, Elise Perron and Ellis Kelly each have nine.
Game One: UTSA
What could have been a match with regular season title implications a few weeks ago, UTSA is now 10 points behind Memphis with two games to play and fighting for the second spot in the table. The Tigers didn't officially clinch their 16th title until UTSA fell at Tulsa a few hours later.
Regardless, the Roadrunners (7-3-5, 3-1-3 American) have been one of the conference's huge success stories this year, currently sitting in third despite being picked eighth in the preseason poll. Their loss at Tulsa was the first since the end of August.
They rank 15th in the country in goals-against average (0.60), second only to Memphis (0.40) in the conference. Jasmine Kessler's save percentage of 86.6% ranks 10th nationally. Zoe May leads the team in points behind four goals and two assists.
Derek Pittman is in year eight at the helm for UTSA, the winningest coach in Roadrunners history with 61 wins. A relatively new member of the American Conference, UTSA and Memphis have matched up just twice, with the Tigers grabbing 1-0 wins in 2023 and 2024.
Game Two: Temple
After a battle at the top of the conference table on Thursday, Memphis will return home for a match between two teams that couldn't be further apart in the standings. The Tigers have earned 22 out of possible 24 points in conference matches this season, while Temple will be looking for their first points in conference play. They will play UAB in Birmingham on Thursday night.
The Owls (3-13, 0-7 American) have been a tough out for several teams this year, highlighted by 1-0 losses to North Texas and Rice as well as a 4-2 thriller with South Florida. Valentina Bitterwolf, a freshman from Germany, leads the team with three goals and five assists.
Chris Shaw took over as Temple coach in 2024 after a four-year stint at Robert Morris. The Tigers lost to Temple in overtime in 2015 and tied the Owls in 2014, but they have otherwise been perfect with a 10-1-1 record, including two consecutive 4-0 victories.
Tiger Tidbits
- There is still business to handle, but an undefeated regular season would mark just the second time in Memphis history (2011). They also finished the conference season unbeaten in 2023 and 2024.
- Brooks Monaghan entered the top 35 all-time in Division-I wins among women's soccer coaches, collecting his 325th on Sunday.
- Memphis was the second team to clinch a conference championship in 2025, as UNC Wilmington clinched the CAA just a few hours prior.
