The Tigers enter the weekend having won six of their last eight games. Memphis has also claimed its last three series after posting a pair of home wins against Middle Tennessee and UNCW, bookending a road series sweep at WKU two weeks ago.
Memphis ranks second in The American in doubles with 44, including a league-leading 10 from freshman Hunter Goodman. Sophomore Ben Brooks begins league play with a team-best .342 batting average. Junior Alec Trela has also found a groove at the plate, batting .458 over the last eight games. Trela has added six RBI, five doubles and a home run in that same stretch.
On the mound, Memphis' 10.6 strikeouts per nine innings rank 10th nationally. Senior Hunter Smith has registered 36 strikeouts on a staff that has compiled 200 strikeouts. The 200 total stands second among AAC teams.
The Shockers have won four of their last six contests, including a 13-inning walk-off win against Kansas on Wednesday night. Previously, Wichita State split a four-game series against Rhode Island.
Jordan Boyer (.435) and Luke Ritter (.405) rank second and third, respectively, among league hitters in batting average. The Shockers have struggled on the mound in the early part of the season and rank last in the conference with a 6.18 staff ERA.
Memphis and Wichita State meet for just the second series in each program's history. In their inaugural season of The American, the Shockers claimed two of three against the Tigers last year.
