Softball Ends Tiger Classic With Murray State Victory

Ryleigh Aungst leads Memphis with 3-for-4 effort at the plate
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team finished the Tiger Classic on a high note with a 9-5 victory over Murray State Sunday afternoon. Memphis evened the weekend series against Murray State and ultimately finished the Tiger Classic with a 3-2 overall record.

The win Sunday improved Memphis to 15-12 overall on the year and 10-3 at home. Memphis has a quick turnaround with a home contest against No. 18/19 Oklahoma State Monday evening at 5 p.m.

Ashley Threatt and Ryleigh Aungst ignited the Memphis offense with a pair of line drive singles to left field in the bottom of the second inning. Regan Hadley proceeded to knock a double to left center to drive in the first run of the ball game.

Memphis tallied four hits in the second and scored three runs to take an early 3-0 lead over Murray State.

Aungst added to the Tiger lead in the bottom of the third with her team-leading fourth home run of the season. She drove in Delaney Smith, who reached on a two-out walk.

Murray State answered with two in the top half of the fourth on a two-run shot off the left field foul pole. Bayleigh Wisher stepped in to relieve Karli Perque after the home run. Perque finished with three strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.

One more run in the bottom of the fifth by Memphis behind a walk drawn by Jessie Lamb and a single up the middle by Threatt proved to be the most important run of the game. The run gave Memphis a 6-2 lead, just before Murray State hit a three-run shot in the top of the sixth inning.

After relinquishing three runs in the sixth, Memphis answered with three of its own in the bottom half of the inning. The Tigers scored their three runs on three hits while capitalizing on a pair of Racer errors.

Wisher finished the contest for Memphis and put in 3.2 innings of work in her sixth victory of the season. The Tiger pitching corps combined for six strikeouts and just four hits.

- Ryleigh Aungst's home run in the third inning was her fourth this season. Regan Hadley and Baylee Smith also have four home runs each for Memphis.

- Delaney Smith extends her hitting streak to a team-leading four games.
- Jessie Lamb recorded a stolen base, her third of the season. She also drove in two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
- Bayleigh Wisher improves to 6-1 overall. Wisher entered her senior season with a 4-2 overall record.
