Cowgirls Down Tigers In Midweek Contest

Ashley Threatt hit her third home run of the season against Oklahoma State
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team was unable to overcome early scoring by Oklahoma State Monday evening, falling to the No. 14/18 ranked Cowgirls by a score of 5-2. The Tigers drop to 15-13 overall with conference play on the horizon this upcoming weekend.

Baylee Smith registered the first hit of the ball game for either team after Karli Perque retired the Cowgirls in order in the top of the first inning. Smith was stranded, however, at second base and the Tigers went into the top of the second tied 0-0 with Oklahoma State.

The Cowgirls capitalized on pitching miscues in the second. Oklahoma State plated three base runners, who all reached by way of walks.

Oklahoma State was held hitless until the top of the fourth when the Cowgirls tallied three hits in the inning. Those three hits, combined with a sacrifice bunt, led to two runs scoring. Bayleigh Wisher stepped in second relief in the fourth and worked the Tigers out of a jam with a strikeout and a ground out.

Memphis answered back with two in the bottom of the fourth. Baylee Smith reached on a fielding error before Ashley Threatt launched her third home run of the season.

The Tiger runs in the bottom of the fourth inning proved to be the final score in the contest for both squads. Perque was credited with the loss after hurling 1.0 innings for the Tigers. Collectively, the Tigers registered seven strikeouts on the evening.

- Baylee Smith hit her seventh double of the season in the bottom of the first inning. Her stat line this season consists of seven doubles, three triples and four home runs. Fourteen of her 28 hits are for extra bases.
- Ashley Threatt hit her third home run of the year in the bottom of the fourth inning.
- Mariah Nichols threw 2.1 innings in first relief for the Tigers. She struck out three.
- Bayleigh Wisher finished the contest for Memphis, throwing 3.2 innings with a pair of strikeouts and no runs scored.
- Gracie Morton and Regan Hadley tallied hits in addition to Threatt and Smith.
