Alec Trela hits first-inning home run in loss
CINCINNATI, Ohio – Memphis started well before allowing 10 unanswered runs, losing 10-2 to Cincinnati Friday at Marge Schott Stadium. The Tigers (9-21, 1-6 AAC) scored two runs in the top of the first on a two-run home run by Alec Trela.
Memphis will try to even the series with the Bearcats in Game 2 on Saturday at 3 p.m. (CT).
Trela started the game with a bang, smashing a two-run homer in the top of the first inning. Trela's second home run of the season came after a walk by Cale Hennemann.
Cincinnati came back in the second and took advantage of a Tigers error to take the lead. The Bearcats started the inning with a single before a double play ball was hit back to pitcher Riley Cabral. He threw to second base but the ball was dropped by Trela to put two runners on with no outs.
Connor McVey followed the error with a two-run double to tie the game up 2-2. A sacrifice fly gave the Bearcats a 3-2 lead that they would not relinquish.
The Bearcats added to the lead in the third inning with a two-out run to extend the lead to 4-2. Cincinnati scored three runs in the fifth and three more in the eighth to finish off the game 10-2.
Cabral logged six innings, allowing seven runs (five earned) on six hits and four walks with three strikeouts. Taylor Bobo came out of the bullpen and pitched two innings, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks.
