Tigers Win on Trela’s Ninth-Inning Grand Slam

Memphis wins 10-6 at Murray State Tuesday
The Tigers (14-28) and Racers were tied 6-6 in the ninth before Trela's grand slam. The game featured four lead changes and three ties.
Nick Vaage also produced a three-hit game, going 3-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored.
Both teams used five different pitchers in the game and Memphis left-hander Hunter Smith picked up the win, pitching the final two scoreless innings. Smith struck out two batters and allowed just one hit.
Memphis opened the scoring in the second inning, taking a 2-0 lead. Vaage singled and Kyle Ouellette was hit by a pitch to put two runners on base with one out.
Josh Rooker followed with an RBI single to put the Tigers up 1-0 and Ben Brooks hit an RBI groundout to score Ouellette for the Tigers second run.
Murray State got a run back in the bottom of the second after an error by the Tigers.
The Tigers extended the lead to 3-1 in the fourth after Trela doubled and later scored on a wild pitch.
The Racers took their first lead of the game with three runs in the fifth inning to go up 4-3. Connor Alexander allowed two singles before the Tigers went to the bullpen.
Riley Cabral came in to pitch and allowed two walks and two singles to put Murray State in front.
Memphis wasn't down long though, scoring two runs in the top of the sixth to retake the lead 5-4. Tyler Webb walked and Cale Hennemann was hit by a pitch to start the inning.
Trela singled to tie the game up and Vaage followed with another single to retake the lead.
Murray State came right back to tie the game up yet again in the sixth inning. A dropped third strike and an errant throw put a runner at third base with one out and an RBI groundout tied the game 5-5.
The Racers retook the lead 6-5 after several miscues by the Tigers in the seventh. In the inning Memphis had two walks, two wild pitches and an error.
The final two innings were won by the Tigers though, as Jason Santana delivered a two-out game-tying RBI single in the eighth before Trela's game-winner in the ninth.
Memphis will continue its road-swing with a trip to No. 20 USF this weekend.
