Tigers Drop Series to ECU

Memphis heads to Murray State Tuesday night
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis was swept in a doubleheader by No. 11 ECU Saturday at FedExPark. The Tigers (13-28, 1-11 AAC) lost both games by a score of 4-2.
Memphis is back in action at Murray State on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
GAME 1:
The afternoon started well for the Tigers, who got an early lead with two unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning. Colton Neel and Alec Trela both singled and a throwing error allowed Neel to score and Trela to go to second base.
Cale Hennemann delivered a two-out RBI single to make the Tigers lead 2-0.
ECU burst into the lead with a four-run fifth inning. The Pirates used five singles, a walk and a wild pitch in the inning. That was all the scoring that would happen in the game.
Jonathan Bowlan pitched seven innings and allowed four runs in eight hits. He struck out five batters. Riley Cabral pitched two scoreless innings out of the bullpen and struck out two.
Hennemann finished 2-for-4 with one run batted in. Kyle O'Keefe returned to the lineup after missing several games with an injury and finished 1-for-4 with a double.
GAME 2
In Game 2, ECU scored early and held the Tigers off the rest of the way. The Tigers scored one run in the first, one run in the second and two more in the top of the third.
Memphis got on the board in the sixth inning after loading the bases with nobody out. After ECU went to the bullpen, Cale Hennemann ripped a two-run single to right field. The Tigers ended up with two runners
Danny Denz started the game and pitched two innings, allowing two earned runs. Hunter Smith came out of the bullpen and pitched four innings and allowed just one run on four hits.
Blake Bennett pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Taylor Bobo came in to pitch to one batter and struck out the lone hitter he faced.
The Tigers return to action Tuesday, April 24th as they travel to Murray, Ky. to take on the Racers of Murray State at 6 p.m. (CT).
