MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team fell to USF Thursday evening by a score of 4-1 in the first home conference game of the 2018 season. Memphis falls to 25-9 on the year and 2-2 in American Athletic Conference play.

The Tigers took an early lead over the visiting Bulls due to back-to-back hits by Baylee Smith and Ashley Threatt in the bottom of the first inning. USF hit the first of two home runs as an answer in the top half of the second to tie the contest up at 1-1.

Two scoreless innings passed before the Bulls recorded their second home run of the game, a three-run shot, to take a 4-1 lead over the Tigers.

Memphis threatened in the bottom of the fifth, but was unable to advance a runner beyond second base. Molly Smith was handed the loss against the Bulls and falls to 14-4 on the year.

Ashley Threatt extended her hitting streak to nine games with an RBI single in the first inning. Nine games matches her career-high at Memphis.
Threatt finished with a team-high two hits, the sixth time this season she recorded a multi-hit game.
Baylee Smith recorded her sixth double of the season in the bottom of the first inning.

Bottom 1 – With one out, Baylee Smith hit a double down the left field line to be the first Memphis base runner of the game. Ashley Threatt proceeded to single up the middle to drive in Smith. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
Top 2 – A solo home run to left center tied the game at 1-1. (1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
Top 5 – A pair of walks put runners on the bases and with two outs, the Bulls hit a three-run home run to take the lead. (3 runs, 1 hit, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
