The Tigers have played seven of the last nine games on the road and have gone 2-7 during that stretch. Memphis plays nine of the next 13 games at home.
The Tigers lost another close game, falling 8-7 to No. 5 Arkansas Tuesday at AutoZone Park. The narrow defeat was the 14th game that Memphis has lost by three runs or less this season. Memphis has five two-run losses and five one-run losses.
This weekend Memphis will honor its first All-American baseball player, retiring the jersey of Ron McNeely (1974-76). The ceremony will take place prior to Saturday's game. McNeely was a two-time All-American and holds the Tigers' single-season batting record with a .462 average in 1976.
The Tigers recent history with the UCF Knights is not great, having lost four straight series dating back to 2014. Memphis' last series win over UCF was in 2013 at FedExPark. Memphis does lead the all-time series over UCF 21-18.
Outfielder Tyler Webb continues to lead the Tigers offensively with a .333 batting average in 24 starts. He ranks seventh in the American with 31 hits and 11 doubles. His 17 runs scored lead the team and his 15 RBI are the second-most on the team.
Memphis enters the weekend hoping to end a four-game losing streak, but that is not the only streak the Tigers would like to snap. Junior RHP Jonathan Bowlan is winless in his last 10 starts despite a 2.33 ERA during that stretch. The Tigers have lost each of Bowlan's last 10 starts dating back to last season.
