Tigers Sweep Alcorn State Tuesday Evening

Memphis improves to 25-8 on the year
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team improved to 25-8 on the year after taking two games Tuesday against Alcorn State. Memphis won game one by a score of 6-0 before taking game two by a 10-2 margin in five innings.

Game one remained scoreless through three innings before the Tigers capitalized in the bottom of the fourth. Four runs in the fourth combined with one more in the fifth and sixth innings lifted the Tigers to a game one victory. In windy conditions, Memphis rattled off a pair of doubles by Ashley Threatt and Rebeca Melton in game one.

Molly Smith pitched a complete game shutout in game one with eight strikeouts to improve to 14-3 on the year.

After two scoreless innings of ball in game two, the Tiger bats came alive in the bottom of the third inning. Five runs on six hits led to a momentum swing against the Lady Braves.

Alcorn State had an answer with two in the top half of the fourth, but two more in the fourth combined with three in the fifth lifted Memphis to the eight-run run-rule victory. The Tiger offense ultimately recorded 12 hits in the second game, including three for extra bases. Memphis also registered a season-high seven stolen bases in the win.

Mariah Nichols also joined the double-digit win club as she improved to 10-4 on the year.

- Ashley Threatt's extended her hitting streak to eight games against Alcorn State.
- Kyler Trosclair Klatt finished with three hits and two runs scored in the second game of the day.
- Memphis stole seven bases in game two, marking a season-high.
- Brooke Lee finished the day with three hits and six RBIs including a team-high four RBIs in game two.
- Erin Parker also had a multi-hit game in game two with a run scored and run driven in.

- Bottom 4 – Baylee Smith led the inning off with an infield single to the shortstop. A double to center field by Ashley Threatt scored Smith for the first Memphis run of the game. Back-to-back singles by Delaney Smith and Brooke Lee led to two more runs scoring before a single through the right side by Kendall Lee a batter later scored Brooke Lee. (4 runs, 5 hits, 1 error, 2 left on base)
- Bottom 5 – Baylee Smith again reached base as the leadoff batter, this time with a five-pitch walk. She proceeded to steal second and then score on a single up the middle by Addison Maxwell. (1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 0 left on base)
- Bottom 6 – Rebeca Melton doubled down the left field line as a pinch-hitter, scoring Sara Ann Davidson who reached on a walk. (1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
Memphis 10, Alcorn State 2
- Bottom 3 – Kyler Trosclair Klatt led the inning off with a double to left center. She scored on a single by Maxwell. With Maxwell standing on second after a stolen base, Ashley Threatt doubled to center field, scoring Maxwell. Another double by Delaney Smith combined with a sacrifice fly by Brooke Lee scored the third and fourth runs of the inning. A single through the left side by Erin Park drove in Kendall Lee, who singled up the middle after Brooke Lee's at bat. (5 runs, 6 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
- Top 4 – The first three batters of the inning reached by way of a walk, a single, and a double to score the first run of the inning. An infield single with the bases loaded scored the second run. (2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 3 left on base)
- Bottom 4 – Baylee Smith reached on an error and worked her way around the bases to score on Brooke Lee's single to right field. In addition to Smith, Delaney Smith scored on the Lee single after drawing a walk to get on base. (2 runs, 1 hit, 1 errors, 2 left on base)
- Bottom 5 – Three straight singles to start off the inning drove in one run. With one out, Alcorn State loaded the bases with a walk and proceeded to walk the final two runs in. (3 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 3 left on base)
