The 22-7 start is the best start in program history for Memphis softball

WICHITA, Kan. – The University of Memphis softball team continues to rewrite the history books after a 3-2 victory Friday evening on the road against Wichita State. The victory improved Memphis to 22-7 on the year, which marks the best start in program history.

The Tigers found themselves down early after Wichita State launched a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning.

Memphis had an answer with two runs in the top of the third, ignited by Kyler Trosclair Klatt's eighth triple of the season. Baylee Smith and Delaney Smith both recorded hits in the Memphis third inning.

The Shockers tied up the contest with another solo home run in the fourth, but again, Memphis had an answer. In the top of the fifth inning, Addison Maxwell drove in the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly to left field. Trosclair Klatt was the game-winning run after reaching base on her third hit of the ball game.

Molly Smith earned her 13^th victory of the season in a complete game effort. Smith struck out four and allowed just four Shocker hits.

Tiger Tidbits

Kyler Trosclair Klatt finished with a team-high three hits, marking the fifth time this season she recorded at least three in a game.
Trosclair Klatt also recorded her nation-leading eighth triple of the season in the third inning. She also scored the game-winning run.
Addison Maxwell recorded the game-winning sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. She also recorded a double earlier in the contest.
Kendall Lee earned the start in the designated player spot and started the game with a double.
Memphis has improved to 2-1 against Wichita State all-time. This is the first victory in Wichita in program history.
The Tigers outhit Wichita State 9-4 in the contest. Memphis finished with three extra base hits.

Top 3 – Kyler Trosclair Klatt tripled to right center to lead off the inning. Baylee Smith backed Trosclair Klatt up with a single to left to tie up the contest. A sacrifice bunt by Addison Maxwell combined with a single up the middle by Delaney Smith scored Baylee Smith. (2 runs 3 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
Bottom 4 – A solo home run to left center by Wichita State tied up the game. (1 runs, 1 hits, 0 errors, 0 left on base)
Top 5 – The Tigers answered in the fifth after Trosclair Klatt led the inning off with a single to first. She advanced to third while Baylee Smith reached on a throwing error by the first baseman. A sacrifice fly to left field by Maxwell scored Trosclair Klatt. (1 run, 1 hit, 1 error, 1 left on base)
