Memphis looks to take the series tomorrow at 11 a.m.

WICHITA, Kan. – The University of Memphis softball team fell Saturday afternoon to Wichita State by a score of 11-1. Memphis falls to 22-8 on the year and 1-1 in American Athletic Conference play and looks to take the series against the Shockers tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.

Wichita State took an early lead against the Tigers and continued to score throughout the contest. Memphis put a run up on the scoreboard in the fourth and had the opportunity to tie it with the bases loaded, but a pop out ended the Memphis rally.

Four more runs in the bottom of the fifth by Wichita State including a three-run home run ended Memphis' hopes at a late-inning rally.

Mariah Nichols was dealt her fourth loss of the season and Kyler Trosclair Klatt and Ashley Threatt recorded the Memphis hits this afternoon.

Bottom 1 – A pair of walks with two outs ultimately scored on back-to-back singles, giving Wichita State an early 3-0 lead. (3 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
Bottom 3 – A double and a single to lead off the inning scored the first run of the third. Another double with two outs scored the fifth run of the game. (2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
Top 4 – Ashley Threatt singled through the right side with one out. Sara Ann Davidson came in to pinch run for Threatt and ultimately scored on a walk, fielder's choice, and wild pitch to cut the Wichita State lead down to 5-1. (1 runs, 1 hit, 0 errors, 3 left on base)
Bottom 4 – The Shockers added to more to the scoreboard on three hits and a walk by the Memphis pitching corps. A single to right center scored the two runs. (2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
Bottom 5 – A walk combined with a single to left field put runners on first and second for the Shockers. Another single drove in the first run of the inning before a three-run home run ended the contest. (4 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 0 left on base)
