Memphis Falls in Series Finale to EIU

Tigers back at FedExPark Tuesday at 4 p.m.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis fell behind early and could not mount a comeback as the Tigers lost 6-2 to Eastern Illinois in the series finale.
The Tigers (2-5) are back at FedExPark Tuesday at 4 p.m. to host Southeast Missouri for Dollar Hot Dog Night. Memphis and SEMO last played in 2014.
Eastern Illinois jumped in front early for the third-straight game, scoring four runs in the top of the second inning. A solo home run started the scoring but the further damage came with two outs with a two-run triple and an RBI single.
EIU tacked on another run in the third, chasing Tigers starter Alex Hicks out of the game.
Connor Alexander came into a tight spot and got a groundball double play to end the inning.
The Tigers loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the third inning but were unable to break up the shutout.
Alexander settled the game down for a couple of innings, keeping EIU off the board in the fourth and fifth innings. He got into some trouble in the sixth though, allowing one more Panthers run.
Takoda Metoxen came out of the bullpen to get out of the jam in the sixth inning. Hunter Smith was the next man out of the pen, pitching out of the seventh inning.
The Tigers got on the board in the seventh when Evan Bell scored on a wild pitch. Memphis scored one more in the eighth on a solo home run by Tyler Webb.
Joshua Scheer pitched a scoreless inning of relief and Colton Neel and Blake Bennett combined to finish off the top of the ninth.
Tyler Webb had the Tigers only multiple-hit game of the day, going 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.
