Memphis Travels to No. 9 Ole Miss Tuesday

Tigers set for first midweek game of the season
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Following a successful Opening Weekend at FedExPark, the University of Memphis baseball program will make its first road trip of the season to take on No. 9 Ole Miss Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Swayze Field.

Memphis took down Ole Miss twice last season for the Tigers first sweep of the Rebels since 2013. The Tigers earned their first midweek win of the season, 9-6, in Oxford and then finished off the sweep with a 2-1 extra-innings victory at AutoZone Park. Memphis has a 7-5 advantage in the series with Ole Miss since 2012.
Including the two wins over Ole Miss, Memphis posted an 8-6 record in midweek games last season after only going 2-12 in midweek contests during 2016.
Memphis stands at 2-1 after a series win over Western Kentucky during Opening Weekend and Ole Miss is 3-0 after sweeping Winthrop.
Tigers pitching had a strong start to the season, recording the first Opening Day shutout since 2006. The Tigers' pitching staff allowed just four runs all weekend and struck out 30 batters in 27 innings pitched.
Memphis had not won on Opening Day since 2014 and the Opening Weekend series win was the first since 2014 as well.
Memphis senior outfielder Tyler Webb got off to a good start on Opening Weekend, batting .500 with three doubles to earn AAC Weekly Honor Roll recognition. Webb went 3-for-3 on Opening Day with a double and a run scored.
Sophomore LHP Danny Denz will make his season debut, starting on the mound for Memphis. Denz posted a 1-1 record in seven appearances with a 4.71 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 2017.
Memphis will return to FedExPark for a three-game series against Eastern Illinois, Feb. 23-25. The Tigers last hosted the EIU Panthers in 2016, winning two-of-three.
