Memphis and Cincinnati to play rubber match Sunday at FedExPark

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Cincinnati came out on top, 13-6, Saturday at FedExPark to even the series between Memphis and the Bearcats. The Tigers (25-22, 6-11 AAC) will go for a series win on Sunday at 1 p.m. at FedExPark.

Before Saturday's game Memphis honored it's 2007 NCAA Regional team and retired the jersey of the star first baseman from that team, Adam Amar, in a pregame ceremony at FedExPark. Amar, who owns the Memphis records for games played, hits and RBI, also delivered the ceremonial first pitch while holding his one-month-old son.

Several members of the 2007 team – KK Chalmers, Ben Grisham, Josh Irvin, Will Hudgens, Brennon Martin, Bill Moss, Neil Schenk, Lance Scoggins, Chris South and Phillip Utley – were recognized on the field along with Amar.

The 2007 team enjoyed the program's most successful season in 13 years, as the Tigers posted a 36-27 mark and broke a 13-year absence from postseason play, when they were selected as the no. 3 seed in the Nashville regional.

Cincinnati scored three runs in the first inning after a shaky start from Alex Hicks, in which he hit three batters. Connor Alexander came out of the bullpen and got out of the jam, limiting the damage with a pair of strikeouts.

Alexander gave the Tigers four innings of relief but the Bearcats tagged him for four runs in the third to extend the lead to 7-0. Four more runs came home in the sixth inning to make it an 11-0 game off of a combination of relievers Tommy Morren and Tyler Walton

Memphis scored one in the sixth, one in the seventh and four in the eighth but it wasn't quite enough as the Bearcats upped their run total to 13 in the seventh.

In all, the Tigers used seven different pitchers in the game with Ryan Garner, Blake Bennett and Alex Smith tossing the final three innings.
