ECU scored nine runs in the sixth to come out with an 11-4 win

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Memphis held a 3-1 lead before East Carolina ripped off a nine-run bottom of the sixth inning to cruise to an 11-4 win Friday night at Clark-LeClair Stadium. The Tigers (26-24, 6-13 AAC) will try to even up the series Saturday at 3:00 p.m. (CT).

East Carolina jumped in front 1-0 on an opposite field solo home run by freshman first baseman Spencer Brickhouse in the second inning.

Memphis came back to take a 3-1 lead after a three-run blast by Trent Turner in the top of the sixth. Tyler Webb doubled and Chris Carrier was hit by a pitch in front of the home run.

The Tigers' lead was short-lived though as East Carolina smashed a three-run home run off of starting pitcher Drew Crosby to retake the lead in the bottom of the sixth.

Crosby had been cruising, retiring 11-straight batters from the second through fifth innings. He ended up taking the loss, allowing seven runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings pitched.

The wheels came off after the home run though as ECU finished with a nine-run inning that saw 15 ECU batters come to the plate. After Crosby was lifted from the game Takoda Metoxen and Taylor Bobo pitched the rest of the inning. In all, there were five hits, five walks and one hit batter.

Alex Smith and Danny Denz pitched the final two innings.

Carrier and Turner finished with multiple-hit games and Turner drove in three runs and scored two runs.
