Tigers Welcome Five Teams For UofM Softball Tournament

Memphis will host Buffalo, Oakland, Indiana, Lipscomb, and Western Illinois this weekend
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team looks to continue its winning ways this upcoming weekend by hosting five teams for the UofM Softball Tournament at the Tigers Softball Complex. The Tigers went 5-0 at home last weekend in the first home tournament of the year and will welcome Oakland, Buffalo, Indiana, Lipscomb, and Western Illinois this weekend.
Memphis is 9-7 overall with two non-conference tournaments remaining on the 2017 schedule. This is the first time in program history that the Tigers have started the month of March with a perfect 5-0 record.

Quick Hitters
- The Tigers finished with a 5-0 overall record last weekend at the Blues City Classic.
- Memphis won its first game ever against Louisiana Tech Saturday afternoon by a 5-2 margin.
- Other victories for the Tigers were over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Belmont, Wright State, and Tennessee State.
- The win over Belmont handed the Bruins just their second loss of the season and only loss of the weekend.
- Lindsay Crowdus and Kyler Trosclair led the team offensively at the Blues City Classic with a combined 20 hits and 12 stolen bases.
- Tyler Johnson hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning against Wright State to improve the Tigers to 4-0 at the time. The score was tied 0-0 through six and a half before Johnson hit her first home run of the season.
- Through 16 games, the Tigers have stolen 36 bases with Lindsay Crowdus leading the way with 11.
- Against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Crowdus set the school record with four stolen bases in one game. Her previous career-high was three against Central Arkansas on April 5, 2016.
- Crowdus is now just two shy of matching her season-high of 13 set last year.
- Kyler Trosclair is also in double-figures with 10 stolen bases. The duo of Crowdus and Trosclair join redshirt-senior Hannah Harrell and former Tiger Leandra Hines as the only players in school history to have at least 40 stolen bases in their career.
- Head coach Natalie Poole is in her sixth season at the helm of the Memphis program.
A Look At The Competition
- The Tigers have five games this weekend against Oakland, Buffalo, Indiana, Lipscomb, and Western Illinois.
- This is the first meeting against Oakland.
- The Tigers have a combined record of 8-6 against the other four teams at the tournament.
- Oakland has played just nine games so far this season and overall has a 6-3 record. Mikayela Marciniak leads the Golden Grizzlies offensively with a .370 batting average and 10 hits.
- In the circle, Erin Kownacki owns a 3-1 record with a team-low 0.93 ERA in 29.0 innings pitched. She has held her opponents to just a .175 batting average.
- Buffalo comes into the weekend with a 2-13 overall record. The team has yet to win a true road game and is 2-7 in neutral site contests.
- Leandra Jew leads the squad with a .404 batting average in 47 at bats. She also leads the team with 19 hits. Ally Power leads the Bulls with 32.2 innings pitched in the circle and a 3.64 ERA.
- Indiana is 6-13 overall and 6-10 in neutral site games this season. The Hoosiers as a team are hitting .235 with Aimilia McDonough leading the way with a .433 average.
- Six Indiana players have recorded double-digit hits and as a team, the Hoosiers have hit six home runs so far.
- Tara Trainer leads the team with a 4.18 ERA in a team-high 57.0 innings pitched.
- Lipscomb has had a solid start to the season with a 15-5 overall record. The Bisons are 5-0 at home, 3-1 in true road games, and 7-4 in neutral site contests.
- The Bisons are hitting .276 as a team led by Caitlin Plocheck's .403 average. She has a team-high 27 hits.
- Mandy Jordan leads Lipscomb in the circle with a 1.25 ERA in 73.0 innings pitched. She's struck out 81 batters so far.
- Western Illinois comes into the weekend with a 6-11 overall record. The Leathernecks are hitting .281 as a team.
- Holly Hoelting and Rachel Beatty lead the team in hits with 16 apiece. Hoelting has a team-high three home runs.
