Softball Extends Winning Streak To Seven With Sweep Friday

Tigers defeat Oakland and Buffalo at the UofM Softball Tournament
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team extended its winning streak to seven games, the longest since 2011, with a pair of victories over Oakland and Buffalo Friday evening. Memphis came from behind to defeat Oakland by a score of 4-3 before run-ruling Buffalo in five innings, 11-3.

The Tigers improve to 11-7 on the year and 7-0 at the Tigers Softball Complex.

Three runs in the top of the third inning by Oakland put the visiting team ahead to start of game one for Memphis. Two runs, however, in the bottom of the third by the Tigers cut the Oakland lead to one and shifted momentum back in favor of Memphis. The Tiger offense responded with two more runs in the sixth including the go-ahead run driven in by Tyler Johnson.

Memphis got on top early against Buffalo with five runs in the bottom of the first. The Bulls scattered three runs in the second and fourth innings, but 12 total hits and six more runs kept the game out of reach, leading the Tigers to their seventh-straight win.

Molly Smith and Katie Brignac each earned wins for Memphis in the circle.

Who Stood Out
Addison Maxwell / RF / Junior / Collierville, Tenn.
Maxwell was the only Tiger to have multiple hits in each game. She finished the day with four hits, three runs, and three RBI. Â

Molly Smith / P / Junior / Yamhill, Ore.
Smith matched her career-high with 10 strikeouts in the win over Oakland. She improves to 3-3 on the year after pitching a complete game for the Tigers with three earned runs and just one walk allowed.

Lindsay Crowdus / CF / Senior / Houma, La.
Crowdus extended her hitting streak to a team-leading seven games with a hit in each game on Friday. She also scored two runs and drew a walk for the Tigers.

Kyler Trosclair, Tyler Johnson, and Regan Hadley all recorded a triple on Friday for Memphis. The Tigers came into the weekend ranked in the top 15 in the NCAA in triples per game.

Game 1 - Memphis 4, Oakland 3
Top 3 – Three straight singles combined with a wild pitch and an additional single led to three runs scoring for the Golden Grizzlies. (3 runs, 4 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
Bottom 3 – A triple to left center by Regan Hadley led off the inning. She promptly scored on a double by Brooke Lee who scored three batters later on a single by Addison Maxwell. (2 runs, 3 hits, 1 error, 1 left on base)
Bottom 6 – A double by Maxwell followed up by a single by Lindsay Crowdus scored the game-tying run with no outs. Crowdus proved to be the go-ahead run three batters later on a single by Tyler Johnson. (2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)

Game 2 – Memphis 11, Buffalo 3
Bottom 1 – Kyler Trosclair and Addison Maxwell led the inning off with a triple and a double to quickly put Memphis on the board. The Tigers proceeded to record two more hits while capitalizing on three Buffalo errors as well as a wild pitch. Eleven Tigers came up to the plate in the bottom of the first. (5 runs, 4 hits, 3 errors, 3 left on base)
Top 2 – Buffalo got two runs back with a two-run home run to left field. (2 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors, 0 left on base)
Bottom 3 – Three singles by Regan Hadley, Lindsey Stickrod, and Hannah Harrell as well as a fielder's choice ball by Trosclair led to a Memphis run scoring in the bottom of the third. (1 run, 3 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
Top 4 – The Bulls strung together three hits to score one run. The hit that drove in the third run of the game for Buffalo was a ball hit between the first and second basemen. (1 run, 3 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
Bottom 4 – A triple by Tyler Johnson, the third of the day for Memphis, ignited the offense to produce three more runs in the fourth. After Johnson's triple, Parker, Hadley, and Lee all reached base. Stickrod's putout to the first baseman scored Hadley for the final run of the inning. (3 runs, 2 hits, 1 error, 1 left on base)
Bottom 5 – A single by Trosclair led the inning off for the Tigers. Maxwell brought Trosclair around to score the 10th Memphis run of the game with a single up the middle. The game ended when Johnson reached on a fielding error by the third baseman and Addison Maxwell scored from home. (2 runs, 3 hits, 1 error, 2 left on base)
