Regan Hadley doubles twice; Christian Novak pitches complete game

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team overcame an early deficit, scoring seven unanswered, to defeat Central Arkansas by a score of 8-2 Tuesday evening. The victory improves Memphis to 18-13 on the year.

Central Arkansas took an early lead over the third inning and maintained that lead until the bottom of the fifth. Down 2-1, Regan Hadley doubled over the head of the centerfielder to drive in the go-ahead runs.

Memphis then added five more in the sixth propelled by Calli Irvin's pinch-hit home run. It was the first home run of the season for Irvin and eighth in her career.

Christian Novak pitched the complete game for Memphis and finished with six strikeouts and zero walks. She improves to 5-6 on the year.

Notables

Xiomara Santiago earned her first career start. She got a hit in the second inning.
Lindsay Crowdus extended her on base streak to 20 straight games with a single in the third inning.
Calli Irvin hit her first home run of the season and eighth of her career in a pinch-hit situation in the bottom of the sixth.
Regan Hadley doubled, twice, making that two games this season with at least two extra base hits for the catcher.

Scoring

Top 3 – With one out, the Bears had a runner reach first on a fielding error. Two out of the next three batters singled and two runs crossed the plate. A third attempted to score, but Hannah Harrell threw her out at home. (2 runs, 3 hits, 1 error, 1 left on base)
Bottom 3 – Addison Maxwell singled to the pitcher with two outs and scored on a single through the right side by Lindsay Crowdus. (1 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
Bottom 5 – The Tigers take the lead with a two-RBI double hit by Regan Hadley. Both Kyler Trosclair and Crowdus reached by way of walks. (2 runs, 1 hit, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
Bottom 6 – With runners on second and third, Calli Irvin hit her first home run of the season, scoring three runs for the Tigers. Memphis then put together a pair of singles by Maxwell and Crowdus to put runners on for Hadley. Hadley had her second double of the game to right center, scoring both of those runners. (5 runs, 4 hits, 1 error, 1 left on base)
