Softball Splits With Austin Peay Wednesday

Memphis tallies three more triples; now lead the nation with 17
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In a midweek doubleheader against Austin Peay, the University of Memphis softball picked up the split by winning game one, 8-1, and falling in game two, 4-2. Memphis heads into weekend series against Tulsa with a 19-14 overall record.

The Tigers scattered their runs in five of the six possible innings in game one including two early in the bottom of the first inning. Austin Peay got a run back in the fifth with a pair of doubles, but that was all Molly Smith and the Memphis defense allowed for the remainder of game one.

Memphis recorded four extra base hits including two triples by Kyler Trosclair and Lindsay Crowdus in game one. Smith was credited with the victory after pitching seven complete innings for the Tigers.

Austin Peay put up a four-run third inning in game two and the Memphis offense was unable to recover. The Tigers did get one run back in the third and the seventh, but it proved to not be enough.

Katie Brignac was handed just her second loss in game two against the Governors.

Memphis hits the road to Tulsa for its first road conference series of the season this weekend. - Memphis now has 17 triples this season, which ranks first in the nation.
- Crowdus has extended her on base streak to 22 consecutive games. This matches a career-high.
- Memphis goes into the weekend just five stolen bases shy of matching the program record of 89 set in 2016.

Game One: Memphis 8, Austin Peay 1
- Bottom 1 – Addison Maxwell, with one out, singled to the shortstop and promptly stole second base. A single by Lindsay Crowdus moved Maxwell to third and she scored on a wild pitch. Crowdus came around to score on a single through the right side by Lindsey Stickrod. (2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
- Bottom 2 – Sara Ann Davidson doubled off the wall in left field to be the first base runner of the inning. She scored on a single to left field by Kyler Trosclair. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
- Bottom 4 – Xiomara Santiago led the inning off with a single to centerfield. Jessie Lamb came in to pinch run and she scored on a pinch-hit single to left field by Brooke Lee. A triple down the left field line by Trosclair scored Hannah Harrell, who re-entered for Lee. (2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
- Top 5 – A pair of doubles by Austin Peay led to the only run scoring for the Governors. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
- Bottom 5 – The Tigers got a run back after Crowdus tripled down the left field line and Regan Hadley drove her home on a sacrifice fly. (1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
- Bottom 6 – Two more runs scored for the Tigers after Harrell drew a one-out walk and Maxwell doubled to right center. A throwing error by the second baseman resulted in Crowdus reaching base and Maxwell to score. (2 runs, 1 hit, 1 error, 1 left on base)
Game Two: Austin Peay 4
- Top 3 – A single led off the inning for Austin Peay. That runner moved around to third after a walk and a sacrifice bunt. Another walk loaded the bases and the first run scored on a single to centerfield. A double to center scored two more and the final run scored on a ground out to the second baseman. (4 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
- Bottom 3 – Memphis got a run back in the bottom half of the third after a pair of back-to-back hits by Harrell and Trosclair put runners on second and third. Maxwell then hit a ball deep to left center to drive in Harrell on third. (1 run, 2 hits, 1 errors, 1 left on base)
