Memphis Drops Series to Cincinnati

Memphis jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after Darien Tubbs started the ballgame with a single into centerfield and was sacrificed to second base by Zach Schritenthal. Jake Little drove in the game's first run with a double to left field.
That would be the only lead of the game for the Tigers though as Cincinnati came back with four runs in the bottom of the first after leadoff batter Kyle Mottice started things with a triple. After a walk, an RBI groundout, a fly out and an RBI single, the frame was capped off by a two-run homer by Cole Murphy to make the score 4-1.
The Bearcats came right back in the second with five more runs to end Connor Alexander's day early and put the Tigers in a 9-1 hole after two innings. The Tigers had a chance to get out of the inning without any damage after a chopper hit right back to the mound. If not for a bobble by Alexander, it could have been an inning-ending double play. Instead Cincinnati scored five two-out runs on four hits.
Chris Carrier went 3-for-3 in the game and drove in a pair of runs. The junior had an RBI triple in the fourth inning and RBI single in the sixth. Little was 2-for-3 and doubled twice in the game.
James Muse pitched 3 1/3 innings of relief and allowed just one earned run on four hits. Alex Smith, Trey McNickle, Colton Neel and Trevor Sutton also pitched in relief.
Neel served in multiple roles in the game. The freshman first pitched a scoreless inning of relief, before also pinch-hitting and driving in a run with an RBI single and then finally playing left field.
