Memphis had a tough time with its two midweek games, falling to Austin Peay in extra innings after holding a 7-2 lead late in the game and getting beat 11-1 by No. 2 Mississippi State.
The Tigers did fare well last weekend though, winning their first league series of the year over USF in Tampa, Fla.
Junior outfielder Chris Carrier returned to the lineup for the two midweek games after not starting over the weekend at USF. Carrier had three doubles, two RBI and three runs scored in the two games. He's batting .276 with a team-high 11 doubles and 27 runs scored.
East Carolina is coming off of a 2-2 week where it claimed an 11 inning win at Elon (7-5), while dropping a road league series at Tulane. The Pirates were scheduled to play a midweek game at UNC Wilmington but it was cancelled due to weather.
The Pirates are ranked in the national polls for the seventh consecutive week garnering a No. 23 ranking by D1Baseball, while receiving votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and USA Today Coaches polls. They first entered the polls after picking up a road series win over No. 4 Virginia (Feb. 27-29) - the first over a Top 5 program since 2002.
ECU freshman outfielder Dwanya Williams-Sutton is batting a team and American-best .388 with 12 extra-base hits. He also leads the conference in on-base percentage (.476) and ranks second in slugging percentage (.612).
