MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Tigers will return to the friendly confines of FedExPark to host Arkansas State Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. before welcoming Ole Miss to Memphis for the first game of the season at AutoZone Park Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Â
Memphis will look to rebound in midweek action after having the first two midweek games postponed and going just 1-4 through the first five games.
Â
Memphis swept the two games against Arkansas State last season, after the Red Wolves swept the Tigers in 2014. The teams will meet again this season in Jonesboro, Ark. May 10.
The Tigers are looking to avoid being swept by Ole Miss for the first time since 2009. To do that Memphis will have to beat the Rebels at AutoZone Park for the first time since 2013.
Â
Memphis has had a tough month of March, posting a 5-12 overall record. The Tigers haven't played well away from home either, with a 3-10 record away from FedExPark this season.
Â
Preseason All-American Nolan Blackwood recorded his 21st career save and tied the program record for career saves with Jonathan Van Eaton who pitched from 2010-13.
Â
Darien Tubbs, the preseason American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, has rebounded nicely from a tough stretch two weeks ago. Tubbs has his batting average back up to .287 after it dipped as low as .233. The junior has four multiple-hit performances in the last seven games.
Â
Jacob Elliott has started the last eight games at first base for Memphis and currently has a five-game hitting streak. The sophomore is batting .357 with 13 RBI and seven runs scored in 10 starts.
Â
Jake Little is shining at the plate in his senior season for the Tigers. The four-year Memphis player is batting a team-high .345 with 14 RBI and 18 runs scored after suffering an injury-plagued season in 2014.
Â
Memphis stands in the top 30 in the NCAA with 37 stolen bases through 23 games this season. The Tigers have been successful on the base paths as an entire team and no Memphis player is in the top 50 in the country in stolen bases. Despite not having a triple over the weekend, Memphis is still top-10 nationally with 12 triples.
Â
All home games are streamed live online by the Memphis Tiger Network at GoTigersGo.com/Watch. WUMR U 92-FM carries the radio broadcasts throughout the season with Jeff Brightwell and Greg Gaston on the call.
Â
Memphis will remain at home for the weekend, welcoming UCF to FedExPark for the American Athletic Conference opener. The series gets underway Friday at 6:30 p.m. and continues Saturday at 2 p.m. with the series finale Sunday at 12 p.m.
