NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tigers were swept in a doubleheader of games against Lipscomb Tuesday afternoon 3-2 and 13-1 in five innings at Draper Diamond at Smith Stadium.
With the losses, Memphis falls to 13-20 (1-5 AAC), while Lipscomb improved to 19-20 (5-4 A-Sun) with its pair of wins.
Haleigh Ross homered in the second game, her second home run of the year, but it wasn't enough as the Tigers fell in a close game. Defensively, the Tigers were solid, committing no errors, while the Lady Bisons made one.
Brittany Vaughn moved over to play third base and had a pair of assists in each game. Anna Thomas at first had her fair share of good defensive stops, including ranging to her right to snag a low-linedrive to rob a Lipscomb batter of a sure hit.
Game One -- Memphis 2, Lipscomb 3
The first game featured tough pitching from both sides, as Memphis had four hits to the Lady Bisons' five. That fifth hit would prove to be the difference. In the sixth inning, Caitlin Plocheck hit a solo home run just out of the reach of Hannah Harrell over the left field wall. Plocheck finished with all three RBI for the Lady Bisons in the game.
Jordan Richwood (6-11) took the loss for the Tigers despite pitching another solid game from the circle. She gave up just the three runs and struck out three in her six innings of work. On the other side, Kelly Young (10-10) pitched six innings and gave up four hits and two runs. Tanner Sanders came in to finish the game and get her first save of the season.
Ross put the Tigers up in the second inning. Third baseman Brittany Vaughn reached through an error on a Lady Bisons infielder. Ross followed Vaughn with her second home run of the season, a two-run shot to center field to put the Tigers ahead.
Lipscomb responded in the fourth inning to tie the game, getting three of its five hits in the process. The Lady Bisons led off the inning with a single and then, after a pop up out, a hit batter. Another single loaded the bases for Plocheck, who lined the third hit of the inning off of the third base bag and into left field, tying the game.
After another walk, the pitchers for both teams would combine to get the next 12 batters out before Plocheck's game-winning home run.

The bottom of the second inning was the difference in game two as the Lady Bisons batted around and scored 12 runs en route to the win. Other than that inning, both teams scored just one run apiece.
Katie Brignac (4-2) went 1.1 innings with six runs and a strikeout. Molly Smith threw two-thirds of an inning with six runs, and then Calli Irvin gave up a single run in her two innings of work. Sanders, who closed game one, finished with a complete game. She walked three and gave up a run in her five innings in the circle.
Lipscomb had only seven hits, but earned four walks and four batters were hit by pitches. The Tigers lone hit in the second game came from Sami Jo Schulz in the fourth inning.
After a clean first inning from Brignac, she started the second by hitting Brittany Elmore, who would also be hit again in her second at-bat of the inning. A ground out and then double scored the first run, and then a single made it 2-0. After a double scored two more later in the inning, Smith came in to replace Brignac.
Smith immediately got the first out, but then a walk and hit batter brought in a run to make it 5-0. Another walk scored a run and then a grand slam from Baylee Williams put the Lady Bisons up 10-0. Another home run later in the inning, this time a two-run shot from Brianne Welch gave them a 12-0 lead.
Memphis got a run back as back-to-back walks and a hits batter loaded the bases. After a force out at home on a fielder's choice, Lindsay Crowdus picked up an RBI as she grounded out to the first baseman and Addison Maxwell came home to beat the throw.
Lipscomb brought their lead back to 12 with a run in the bottom of the third, and that was all the scoring either team would have.
Memphis returns to action on Saturday as the Tigers head to Storrs, Conn. for an American Athletic Conference matchup with the Huskies. Follow the Tigers on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter @MemphisSoftball to stay up-to-date with scores, news and information about the team.
