Prater Completes 2025-26 Roster with UNLV Transfer Jazmine Chavez

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis softball head coach Trena Prater has announced the final member of the 2025-26 team with the addition of Jazmine Chavez, a transfer pitcher from UNLV. The Tigers will officially have 14 newcomers this season.
In her freshman season in 2025, Chavez made 14 appearances in the circle for the Rebels. Her first collegiate appearance came on Feb. 7 with a scoreless inning thrown against Buffalo in an 11-3 victory.
"I am rounding out this offseason with a pitcher that will diversify our pitching staff," said Prater. "Her pitching arsenal has some really good stuff in it. I like that she spins it well on both sides of the plate, changes eye levels well and has a nasty changeup. I was impressed with her mentality and understanding of being on a pitching staff. She wants to play her role and grow with the other pitchers. We have done a great job of recruiting pitchers this year and she knows that in coming here, she won't have to do it all by herself."
Chavez tallied three wins during her first season over Southern Utah, Monmouth and Penn. She made seven starts and threw two complete games during the 2025 season.
A native of Eastvale, Calif., Chavez was a 2024 All-League first team selection and Team MVP at Eleanor Roosevelt High School. As a senior in high school, she carried a 1.62 ERA in 77 innings pitched, tallying 122 strikeouts and holding opposing batters to a .163 batting average. Additionally, she averaged just under one strikeout per inning, recording 41 strikeouts over 42 innings in 2023.
