Memphis held a one-run lead through four innings, but a pair of scores by UAB in the fifth and sixth innings were too much for the Memphis bats to overcome in the final frames.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- While Memphis' first six batters went down in order, Mya Clark worked through two scoreless innings, giving up a hit in each.
- Kennedy Semien hit a hustle double to lead off the third and came around to score on a Neely Taylor RBI single.
- After both offenses were unable to produce in the fourth inning, UAB took advantage of a leadoff double by Ashlyn Shirah in the fifth and brought her home on a sacrifice fly after Shirah was sacrificed to second by Hannah Dorsett.
- Isabella Hune led off the sixth with a single but was stranded at third after a diving catch on a Faith Brown line drive to center.
- UAB took its first lead of the game on a home run by Antonia Henderson that popped out of Kennedy Semien's glove on a robbery attempt.
- Memphis' batters went down in order in the seventh to end the game.
- The two runs scored by UAB were the least allowed by Memphis in a loss this season.
- The previous low was a pair of 4-3 losses against Tulsa and RV Arizona State.
- Mya Clark tossed 4.1 innings in the start, only allowing one run and striking out two in the no-decision.
- Avery Stutts threw 1.2 innings, striking out one while being credited with the loss.
- Neely Taylor picked up her ninth RBI of the season after going 1-for-3 in the loss.
- Taylor's hit tonight makes her the third Tiger this season to reach 10 hits in American Conference play.
- Kennedy Semien was 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored in the game.
- Semien is now fifth on the team with five doubles.
- Isabella Hune had a base hit in the loss, her seventh of the year.
The rubber match against UAB is set for a 1 p.m. start tomorrow to close out the weekend.
