The University of Memphis volleyball team was swept by UTEP in Conference USA competition Friday night at Memorial Gym.
The Tigers, who dropped to 5-20 overall and 1-9 C-USA play, suffered their third-straight setback with the loss. The Miners snap a six-match conference losing skid to improve to 10-13, 3-6 in C-USA.
The Tigers had no answer for the offensive attack of UTEP outside hitter Catherine Chavez. Chavez ripped a match-high 16 kills, made seven digs and added four total blocks. Setter Patty Jarmoc had a solid night, dishing out a match-high 32 assists to go with six kills, six digs and three block assists. Amy Sanders also pitched in with eight kills.
Memphis setter Christine Bach notched the contest's lone double-double with 25 assists and 11 digs. Tiger libero Becky Shaffer led all players with 17 digs.
Offensively, Memphis struggled to a .092 hitting percentage. Kaitlin Inglish led the way with nine kills and Rebekah Strickland downed seven.
Memphis will look to get back on track on Sun., Oct. 25, when it takes on Tulane in New Orleans. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
