Tigers Fall to Charlotte on the Road

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Memphis (10-20, 1-14 American) dropped a three-set match to Charlotte (17-10. 8-7 American) inside Halton Arena Friday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Memphis opened strong with a 6-3 run before Charlotte answered back. The Tigers built momentum behind kills from Zaniah Hoskins, Brianna Washington, Jasmyn Tate and Janyah
Henderson to take a 14-11 advantage. The 49ers responded with a 5-0 run, sparked by kills from Jaylen Jordan, Selanny Puente and Azavia Thomas, to move ahead 16-14. Both teams battled late, but a kill from Thomas and a Memphis attack error secured a 25-23 first set win for Charlotte.
Charlotte carried the momentum into the second frame with a 9-4 run before Washington stopped the surge with a kill. Puente and Jessica Ricks combined for five kills to keep the 49ers in control throughout the set. Hoskins, Za'Niya Boyles and Tate added kills to help cut into the deficit, but Charlotte pulled away for a 25-13 victory.
The third set started point-for-point before Charlotte put together a 4-0 run to take control. The 49ers added multiple 3-0 bursts behind Jordan and Ricks, who recorded another five kills. Tate, Hoskins and Henderson added late offense for the Tigers, but Charlotte sealed the match with a 25-13 final set.

Memphis closes the regular season on Sunday against East Carolina at noon CT on ESPN+.
