Tigers Head East to Face Charlotte and East Carolina

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis (10-19, 1-13 American) heads to North Carolina to face Charlotte on Friday at 5 p.m. CT before closing the weekend against East Carolina at noon CT on Sunday. Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Memphis enters the weekend after dropping its home finale against South Florida this past Sunday.
Zaniah Hoskins led the Tigers' offense with 10 kills and 11 points. The freshman leads the team with 285 kills and averages 2.93 per set.
Setters Maddy Bach and Sydney Marshall each recorded double-figure assists with 16 and 10, respectively. Bach has reached the 600-assist mark with 618 this season and averages 6.44 per set. Marshall follows with 374 assists and averages 5.12 per set.
Abigail Schlueter totaled 13 digs, marking her 18th match this season with 10 or more digs. The junior libero has 352 digs and averages 3.42 per set, which ranks fifth in the American.
Janyah Henderson and Hoskins each posted two block assists in the last match. Henderson ranks ninth in the conference in blocks per set at 1.07.
SCOUTING THE 49ERS
Charlotte (16-10, 7-7 American) split their last two games with dropping a match to Tulsa last Friday before defeating Wichita State on Sunday in four-sets.
Charlotte leads the American in blocks per set and ranks second in digs per set.
Kristen Birmingham led the offense with 32 kills and 35.5 points, averaging 4.57 kills per set. She was named to the American Conference Honorable Mention list on Monday.
Setter Maddie Stuesser paced the 49ers with back-to-back 30-plus assist performances, totaling 75 assists on the weekend, including 42 against Wichita State. She ranks seventh in the conference in assists and earned American Honorable Mention honors this week.
Defensively, Annika Thompson collected 29 digs over the last two matches and leads the American with 478 total digs.
Selanny Puente recorded eight blocks, including one solo block, against Wichita State. Puente leads the team with 78 blocks. Jovana Antic follows with 77 and leads the conference in blocks per set.

East Carolina (11-14, 3-11 American) comes into the weekend after dropping two road matches against Wichita State and Tulsa. East Carolina will host UAB on Friday before Memphis comes to town on Sunday.
The Pirates rank fourth in the conference in aces per set at 1.54.
Aulie Huff led East Carolina with 20 kills and 23 points last weekend. Huff has 224 kills and averages 2.55 per set this season.
Taryn Gilreath dished out 33 assists and ranks fifth in the conference with 720 total assists.
Elle Jackson and Alli Butrum each notched 20 digs across the two matches. Brooklyn Allison leads the team with 223 digs and averages 4.46 per set.
Kai Bailey led ECU with five block assists against Tulsa. She has 99 total blocks this season, including 17 solo, and averages 1.13 blocks per set.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST CHARLOTTE AND EAST CAROLINA
Friday marks the 17th meeting between Memphis and Charlotte, with the 49ers holding a 9–7 series advantage. The Tigers won the previous matchup last season, but Charlotte has taken the last two meetings played in Charlotte.
Sunday will be the 40th all-time meeting between Memphis and East Carolina. The Tigers hold a 25–14 advantage but are on a four-match losing streak against the Pirates. Memphis last defeated ECU in 2022 in Greenville.
