Abrahamsen Wins Pentathlon on First Day of ASU Invitational

JONESBORO, Ark. - The University of Memphis men's and women's track and field team wrapped up day one of competition at the ASU Invitational. Newcomer Charlotte Abrahamsen won the women's pentathlon with 3,858 points and set a new school record.
Abrahamsen took first in the shot put pentathlon with a throw of 14.66 meters (48-01.25). She broke the previous school record of 3,375 points that was held by current teammate Eryka Morris. Morris placed second in the pentathlon tallying 3,507 points. Morris captured both the long jump and 800 meter pentathlon events.
Deneen Kirk placed sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.94, while Jetaun Jackson placed eighth with 27.40. Both women scored points in the race on the women's side.
With a jump of 3.65 meters (12-00.00) Whitney Bolton placed fourth in the women's pole vault. Ashton Baldwin placed fifth with a height of 3.55 meters (11-08.00).
On the men's side Frashod Barlow ran a 22.80 in the 200 meters and Jorgen Ekdahl had a time of 9:45.56 in the 3,000 meters.
The men's distance medley team of Richard Lowe, Jarred Jones, Guy Hudson and Sam James recorded a time of 10:55.17, earning a third place finish.
Preston Williams sits in fourth place going into day two of the men's heptathlon. After day one he has a total of 2,633 points.
Day two of the ASU Invitational will conclude tomorrow with the men's and women's 1600 meter relays set for 4 p.m.
