JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Memphis throwers Gabriel Koletsi and Sascha Salesius Schmidt qualified for the 2025 NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships after recording top-12 marks in the javelin and shot put, respectively, at the NCAA East Regional.
After reaching NCAA Regionals each of the last two seasons at UMBC, Koletsi qualified for his first Championships after placing 11th behind a 67.84-meter javelin throw.
The junior Schmidt also will compete in his first Championships after coming up just short in each of his first two seasons at Memphis. His season-best shot put launch of 18.77 meters placed 12th in the competition to earn him a berth.
The tandem will compete at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, from June 11 to June 14.
Outside of the qualifying Koletsi and Schmidt, Dejona Simpson ran a personal-best-tying time of 52.69 seconds in the 400 meters and finished 22nd overall in the region, and Prior Ochonogor finished 19th overall in the 400-meter hurdles after advancing out of the first round.
