Mitch Baumgartner joined the University of Memphis Volleyball coaching staff in August 2021. After working as a Graduate Assistant at Purdue University Fort Wayne from 2019-21, Baumgartner became the Assistant Coach on Sean Burdette's staff.

While at Purdue University Fort Wayne, Baumgartner assisted in all facets of the program, where he specifically worked on the team's defense and blocking. While with PFW, Baumgartner helped the program transition from the Summit League to the Horizon League. After helping the program to a third place finish in the Summit League in 2019, Baumgartner helped the school to a third place finish in the Horizon League in 2020.

Prior to his time with the Mastodons, Baumgartner served as a volunteer assistant at the University of San Francisco (2017-19) and coached the 15s National Team at Red Rock East Bay VBC (2017-18).

Baumgartner played for the Illinois State Club Volleyball team, where he also served as the team president. He was named First Team Midwest 10 Conference and First Team NVCF Nationals in 2014. Baumgartner graduated with a BA degree in Physical Education from Illinois State and then earned his MS degree in Organizational Leadership while at Purdue University Fort Wayne.

Baumgartner lives in Memphis with his wife Katie and their Australian Shepherd, Finn.
