Apr 16, 2026 | Softball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team is set for an adjusted weekend series against North Texas with inclement weather expected on Saturday.
Game times will be 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday, with the series finale remaining at noon on Sunday. All three games will feature Tyler Springs on the call for ESPN+.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Memphis (15-30, 3-15 American) looks to get back on track after a midweek win against Alcorn State where the Tigers stole six bases in the victory.
Faith Brown emerged as Memphis' leading hitter in conference play and has kept up her efforts, continuing to lead the Tigers in batting average (.378), doubles (9), triples (2), home runs (7) and RBI (32). Ariel Davis, Memphis' only player to have appeared in all 45 games, is tied with Brown in doubles and triples while still leading Memphis in hits (46), runs (29) and walks (17). Paris Brienesse (.333 AVG) comes into the weekend as Memphis' hottest hitter from the midweek contest, coming off a three-hit, three-steal game. It was the first three-steal performance by a Tiger since 2020.
Avery Stutts is closing in on 100 innings in her freshman campaign while leading the Tigers in wins (6), appearances (29), innings pitched (89.2) and strikeouts (43), while Rylee Dugar (3.59 ERA) has been working back into the rotation after missing over 30 games due to injury, currently sitting at 10 strikeouts over 13.2 innings. Freshman Taylor Caton also projects to see heavy usage this weekend with 33 strikeouts over just 46.1 innings.
SCOUTING THE MEAN GREEN
North Texas (25-19, 13-5 American) is having a successful season under first-year head coach Cody White. The Mean Green took a midweek contest against Abilene Christian on Wednesday and recently took its last conference series against East Carolina.
At the plate, former Texas Tech Red Raider Elizabeth Moffitt (.410 AVG) has led the way in a high-powered offense, forming a tandem with Madison Conley (.385 AVG). The pair have combined for 90 hits, 20 doubles, 24 home runs and 85 RBI. Moffitt was ranked as Softball America's ninth-best catcher in the country earlier this season, while Conley has been an American Conference weekly honoree in back-to-back weeks with an honorable mention this week, after being named Player of the Week on April 6.
In the circle, the duo of Anneca Anderson and Britney Lewinski have tossed just under 88 percent of the Mean Green's innings this season. Anderson (4.62 ERA), a Tulsa transfer, has struck out 79 batters en route to an 11-5 record on the year. Lewinski (4.78 ERA), a three-time transfer most recently at Southeastern Louisiana, leads North Texas with 123 innings and 81 strikeouts in 30 appearances in the circle.
SERIES HISTORY VS. NORTH TEXAS
The Tigers have not fared well against the Mean Green, trailing 1-10 in the all-time series with the only win coming in a 2008 neutral site game before the programs joined the same conference.
Since both joining the American, Memphis is 0-7 against North Texas, falling by a sweep in each of the last two seasons and losing once in the American Conference Championships.
