Memphis Unable to Keep Pace with Golden Hurricane in Loss

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis (10-24, 1-10 American) softball team dropped to 10 losses in conference play in a 14-3 run-rule loss to Tulsa (12-20, 4-7 American) Saturday afternoon.
After a close 3-3 contest through five innings, Tulsa put up nine runs in the sixth inning to push the game into run-rule territory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Memphis looks to avoid a sweep in the series finale against Tulsa tomorrow, with first pitch set for noon.

Tickets will be free for all current University of Memphis students. Up to two fans ages 17 and under will be allowed free admission per paid adult that enters with them. Reserved seating tickets must be purchased if adults would like them to have a seat in the bleachers.
As a reminder, fans are not permitted to bring umbrellas into the venue and Tigers Softball Complex has a clear bag policy.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both starting pitchers were off to strong starts with a 15-pitch first inning by Tulsa's Brinly Maples, followed by an eight-pitch first from Taylor Caton.
- The third inning saw both sides get on the board, beginning with a two-run home run by Tulsa's Amber Turner.
- Faith Brown responded in the bottom half with an RBI single to score Deana Cunningham.
- Ariel Davis came home on a wild pitch during the next at-bat.
- Memphis gained its first lead of the game on an inside-the-park home run by Neely Taylor.
- It was the first inside-the-park home run since Delaney Smith accomplished the same feat against ULM in 2018.
- The Golden Hurricane pushed themselves back in front on a three-run home run by Daeya Moses.
- A nine-run inning for Tulsa put Memphis in the position to be run-ruled.
- Memphis stranded runners at second and third to end the game after Neely Taylor and Faith Brown reached on singles.

- With Taylor's inside-the-parker, Memphis now has 26 home runs on the season, its highest total since 2019 and it puts the 2026 team in sole possession of the seventh-most in a season.
- Neely Taylor was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, including an inside-the-park home run.
- Taylor has now homered in back-to-back seasons against Tulsa.
- Faith Brown also logged a multi-hit performance with two hits and one RBI in the loss.
- Brown is now just one RBI behind Ariel Davis for the team lead after recording her 18th of the year.
- Ariel Davis was the only other Memphis player with a hit, also scoring a run on a wild pitch.
- Davis now has 10 hits in conference play, one less than Memphis' leader, Faith Brown.
- Deana Cunningham logged a run scored after reaching on a walk.
