Tigers Travel to Little Rock for Second Matchup with the Trojans

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis (2-5) baseball team will face Little Rock (6-1) in its first road game of the season on Tuesday afternoon, with the game scheduled to begin at 3:05 p.m.
This will be the 58th all-time meeting between the two programs, with Memphis leading the series 43-14. The Tigers and Trojans most recently met last Tuesday in Memphis in an offensive shootout that Little Rock won 12-11. The Tigers belted four home runs in the contest, their most in a game since April 22, 2025.
Memphis (2-5) is coming off three losses in the Grind City Classic over the weekend. On Friday, Memphis fell 12-5 to Ohio State, giving up a grand slam in the sixth inning. On Saturday, Memphis took on Louisiana Tech. Starter Will Howell pitched six innings, allowing only one run, but the Bulldogs rallied for six runs in the eighth to claim an 8-5 win. The Tigers faced the Buckeyes again Sunday, getting out to a 2-0 lead before being shut out the rest of the way, ending in an 8-2 loss.
The Tigers swiped another seven bags during the weekend, bringing their total to 20 on the season. Memphis ranks first in the American Conference in stolen bases and 14th in the nation. Senior Freddy Rodriguez leads the team with five without being caught a single time.
Memphis has drawn 40 walks as a team this season, ranking 62nd nationally. Rodriguez and junior Trae Cassidy lead the Tigers with seven walks apiece.
Infielder Shane Cox has been Memphis' top offensive performer to start the season. Cox leads the team in batting average (.400), hits (12), doubles (3) and RBIs (8). Cox also has a hit in six of seven games thus far.
Little Rock (6-1) completed a three-game series sweep over West Georgia over the weekend and is riding a five-game winning streak.
RHP Charlie Smith (0-1, 15.75 ERA) will make his first start this season after allowing seven earned runs in three appearances thus far. The Trojans will throw RHP Jack Cline (0-0, 0.00 ERA) who has pitched just two innings through seven games for Little Rock.
The Tigers will face familiar foes in Nico Baumbach (8 H / 2 2B / 1 HR), Ty Rhoades (9 H / 1 HR / 13 RBI) and Angel Cano (10 H / 9 R / 3 HR). The Trojans rank 38th in the nation in home runs hit with 11 so far this season.
