May 14, 2025 | Baseball
WICHITA, Kan. – The University of Memphis baseball team is set for a three-game American Athletic Conference series with Wichita State at Eck Stadium in Wichita, Kansas, Thursday through Saturday to conclude the regular season.
All three games can be streamed live on ESPN+ and Jeff Brightwell will have the call via audio stream at GoTigersGo.com and The Varsity Network powered by Learfield.
After an 11-8 win over Central Arkansas on Tuesday afternoon, the Tigers improved to 22-30 (8-16 AAC) on the season with one regular season series remaining vs. the Shockers (17-34, 8-16 AAC), who Memphis currently sits in a tie with for the final conference tournament seed.
Eck Stadium will play host to the 21st, 22nd and 23rd all-time meetings between the two programs, with the Shockers leading the all-time series, 13-7. Last season, the Tigers won the series finale 11-10 after Wichita State won the first two games of the set.
The Shockers enter the weekend after dropping a series at Rice, two games to one, last weekend and following it up with a 13-9 win over Oral Roberts Tuesday night.
The Tigers will roll out the weekend rotation of RHP Seth Garner (3-7, 4.11 ERA), LHP David Case (1-7, 5.47 ERA) and a starter to be named later for Saturday's finale. The Shockers will counter with RHP Grant Adler (4-5, 6.06 ERA) on Thursday night and RHP Brady Hamilton (2-7, 5.78 ERA) on Friday, followed by a starter to be announced for the series finale.
Entering the week, Tiger catcher Jonah Sutton was tied for 14th nationally in runners thrown out from behind the plate (18) and is now 20-of-41 (49%) from behind the dish after throwing out another pair of runners on Tuesday vs. UCA. As a team, Memphis has thrown out 40 percent of runners stealing on the season (26-of-65) as Justin Fogel is 5-for-21 on the year and freshman Jack Pitts is 1-for-3.
After ranking 12th nationally with 54 double plays turned a season ago, the Tigers have turned 47 through 52 games to lead The American and rank seventh nationally in that category. Memphis trails national leader UCLA (53) by six.
Wichita State is led offensively by Camden Johnson (.324 AVG. / 15 2B / 31 RBI), Jaden Gustafson (.295 AVG. / 13 XBH / 23 RBI) and Josh Livingston (.288 AVG. / 14 HR / 45 RBI). The Shockers rank 28th nationally with 99 HBP.
