Tigers Take Series Finale with 15-6 Win Over Tulane
May 11, 2025 | Baseball
The Tigers improved to 21-30 (8-16 AAC) overall while the Green Wave dropped to 30-21 (13-11 AAC) on the season.
"Good bounce back win," head coach Matt Riser said. "We talked about the importance of today to put ourselves in a position to control our own destiny and I think we did that with a win. We did a good job of understanding what today entailed. It had been a tough two days offensively, but I had expectations to come out and play well today like we have on Sundays. I was proud of our consistency throughout the game offensively and we finished off a good Sunday to keep ourselves in a good position for next week."
With one week remaining in the regular season, the Tigers are currently tied with Wichita State for the final spot in the AAC Tournament field. Memphis wraps up its season next weekend with a trip to play the Shockers in Wichita, Kansas, with a trip to Clearwater, Florida, and a conference tournament berth on the line.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Tulane got a run in the top of the first inning on a one-out double by Connor Rasmussen, but Memphis starting pitcher Luke Ellis shut Tulane down with a pair of strikeouts in the frame.
• Freshman Jack Pitts got Memphis on the board with two outs in the bottom of the first, driving in Justin Fogel and Seth Cox with a double down the left-field line. Fellow freshman Michael Politte was hit by a pitch to extend his on-base streak to 14 games before Jonah Sutton walked to load the bases for Daniel Perez. Perez, making his first start since May 2, went opposite field for a bases-clearing double to make it a five-run first inning for the Tigers.
• Memphis added three runs in the second inning on three-consecutive hits by Chase Nixon, Seth Cox and Pitts. Cox's single scored Fogel before Pitts ripped his second double of the game to bring Nixon home. Politte drove in the third run of the inning to make it an 8-1 Memphis lead.
• Tulane added a run in the third and another in the fourth before a pair of Tiger errors in the fifth allowed two more runs to cross the plate, unearned, and bring the Green Wave within three runs at a score of 8-5.
• Sutton led the bottom of the fifth off for Memphis with his second walk of the game before a pair of quick outs. Cade Greer singled to left and advanced to second on an error by the left fielder to put a pair of Tigers in scoring position and set the table for another two-out rally. Fogel came to the plate and slapped an opposite-field, two run single through the left side and scored later on an RBI single by Nixon to make it a 11-5 Tiger lead.
• The Tigers put three more two-out runs on the board in the sixth. Creek Robertson drove in the first two with a single to left field and came in to score on another opposite-field RBI single to left by Fogel.
• Tulane got a two-out run of their own in the top of the eighth on a double by Matthias Haas to make the score 14-6, Memphis.
• The Tigers got that run back in the bottom half of the eighth on an RBI double by Robertson that scored Perez all the way from first after he led off the inning with a single.
• Closer Brayden Sanders came on to pitch the ninth in a non-save situation and picked up a pair of strikeouts, running the fastball up to 95-miles-per-hour to finish the win off for Memphis, 15-6.
NOTABLES
• Memphis' 16 hits were tied for a season high (vs. Lindenwood, March 14) and marked the most this season in an AAC game.

• The Tigers drew seven walks and struck out just six times in the win.
• Six Tigers recorded multi-hit performances: Fogel (3), Se. Cox (3), Nixon (2), Pitts (2), Perez (2) and Robertson (2).
• Four Tigers recorded three RBI apiece: Fogel, Robertson, Perez and Pitts. Three RBI marks a career high for Pitts and Perez.
• Fogel finished the day 3-for-5 with three RBI, three runs scored and a walk.
• Pitts ended the afternoon 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three RBI, a walk and a pair of runs scored.
• Perez and Robertson had identical stat lines from the eight and nine spots in the lineup, each ending the game 2-for-5 with three RBI, a double and a run scored.
• RHP Davis Oswalt earned the win and improved to 4-0 on the season, lowering his ERA to 2.88 in the process.
• Ellis got the start and went 3.1 innings, allowing three runs on nine hits, striking out a pair and walking one.
• RHP Caden Robinson threw three strong innings of relief, allowing one run on just a pair of hits and no walks, notching one strikeout.
