Memphis Welcomes UTSA for First Home Conference Series

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis Tigers softball (12-14, 1-2 AAC) will welcome UTSA (12-11, 0-3 AAC) to Tiger Softball Complex for the first home series of American Athletic Conference play.
The updated weekend schedule will feature a doubleheader at noon and 2 p.m. on Friday with the final game of the series scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m. The doubleheader will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Tyler Springs on the call.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Memphis continues its short homestand after falling to North Alabama, 8-5, in a midweek game on Wednesday.
Kennedy Semien has continued to excel in her role at the top of the Memphis lineup. She currently is the ream leader in batting average (.392), hits (29), runs (24), doubles (8), walks (15) and is third on the team with 15 RBIs. Currently ranked second on the team in batting average is Neely Taylor, who has been the mark of consistency in the Tiger lineup. She is the only Memphis player to have started all 26 contests and holds a .373 average with 28 hits and ten extra-base hits.
Zoe Adebayo currently leads the Tigers in home runs (5), triples (3), RBIs (24) and is third on the team in batting average (.366) and hits (26). She is one of only three Tigers to have appeared in every game this season, with the others being Semien and Taylor. In Memphis' midweek game against North Alabama, Adebayo went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs.
The Tiger pitching staff currently holds a team ERA of 4.27, while having just reached 100 strikeouts as a unit. Rylee Dugar leads Memphis in ERA (3.69), WHIP (1.72) and is tied for the team lead in strikeouts with 34. Freshman pitcher Lyrical Bennett has emerged as a strong piece of the Memphis rotation, most recently earning two complete game victories over the last week of competition. Over 13 innings of work that included a 174-pitch, eight inning complete game victory, Bennett held her own in the circle, striking out five batters and only allowing three extra-base hits.
The Memphis staff has been led by Rylee Dugar and Taniyah Brown throughout this season. The duo has combined for eight wins, 101 innings pitched and 68 strikeouts. Both are tied for the team lead in that category with 34 batters struck out each. In recent contests, Lyrical Bennett has been a consistent arm, having thrown two complete games during last week's competition. The freshman currently has three wins on the season.

The Roadrunners also come into this series after suffering a loss in their midweek contest. UTSA fell to UT Arlington, 5-3, on Tuesday night.
UTSA is led offensively by the bat of Sabrina Wick. Wick leads the team in batting average (.377) and hits (29). Makayla Madrid has also stepped into a leading role with team-high marks in doubles (5) and RBIs (15). As a team, the Roadrunners hold a .263 batting average with 35 extra-base hits and 90 runs scored.
In the circle, six different pitchers have made at least nine appearances and all have thrown at least 20 innings this season. Meredith Schmitt leads UTSA in pitching appearances (15) and wins (4). Schmitt has also thrown the most innings on the staff with 39.2. Kaylie Olivarez leads the staff in strikeouts with 28 and was the AAC Pitcher of the Week for the third week of the season. Overall, the UTSA pitching staff holds a team ERA of 4.34 with 116 strikeouts thrown.
THE SERIES WITH…
Memphis and UTSA have only met three times, with all contests being played last season. The final game of that series led to Memphis' lone conference win of the season, an 8-2 victory where Francesca Lumpp recorded two home runs with four RBIs on the afternoon. The first two games of the series went in UTSA's favor by scores of 5-0 and 11-1.
