Tigers Host Lindenwood for Weekend Series, Friday First Pitch Moved Up
Mar 13, 2025 | Baseball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team is set to host Lindenwood at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field this weekend for a three-game series, beginning Friday afternoon at 4:05 p.m., rather than the originally scheduled 6:05 p.m. due to the threat of severe weather.
Game one of the series on Friday can be streamed on GoTigersGo.com with Jeff Brightwell on the audio call. Saturday afternoon's 2:05 p.m. game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Greg Gaston on the call. Sunday's finale is set for a 1:05 p.m. first pitch and will also be streamed live on ESPN+.
The Tigers welcome Lions to FedExPark for the second-straight weekend after hosting Southeastern Louisiana a weekend ago. The series will mark the first-ever meetings between the two programs, as Lindenwood is in its third season as a DI institution as members of the Ohio Valley Conference.
Memphis (9-7) is coming off a 4-2 loss at Arkansas State on Tuesday night as three Tiger errors were a difference in the game. Seth Cox had a 4-for-4 night with four singles to become the second Tiger this season with a four-hit effort (Will Vasseur vs. LA Tech, 3/1/25).
The Tigers dropped their first three-game series of the season to Southeastern Louisiana last weekend after winning their first three. After the Lions (13-3, 3-0 SLC) took game one on Friday night, the Tigers walked off winners on CJ Willis' two-run single in extra innings on Saturday to even the series. A six-run third inning for the Lions propelled them to the series victory on Sunday.
Lindenwood (8-10) enters the series after dropping a pair of midweek games at Murray State (10-3) on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Lions are led offensively by Kam Edwards (.441 AVG. / 2 HR / 19 RBI / 8 SB) and Tyler Thompson (.435 AVG. / 16 RBI / 5 SB).
The Tigers will roll out a weekend rotation of RHP Seth Garner (1-1, 3.27 ERA, 17 K / 4 BB), LHP David Case (1-2, 5.09 ERA, 23 K / 8 BB) and a starter to be announced for Sunday's finale.
The Lions will counter with right-handed pitcher Josh Newell (3-1, 4.64 ERA) on Friday, followed by lefties Eli Brown (1-2, 5.87 ERA) and Ethan Smith (2-0, 2.18 ERA) on Saturday and Sunday.
After ranking 12th nationally with 54 double plays turned a season ago, the Tigers have turned 17 through the season's first 16 games and rank ninth nationally in that category.
The Memphis pitching staff has been another highlight to the start of the season, combining for a 3.98 ERA (140.1 IP) to rank third in The American and 48th nationally. The Tiger bullpen has accounted for 75.1 of those innings and has given up just 26 earned runs for a bullpen ERA of 3.11.
Extra-base hits have been aplenty to begin the year as the Tigers have already hit for 30 doubles (No. 120 NCAA, No. 5 AAC) and four triples (No. 78 NCAA, No. 5 AAC). Memphis has 115 total hits on the season with 46 of them (40%), going for extra bases.
