Memphis Softball Splits Results against Tarleton State and ULM

MONROE, La. – Memphis Tigers softball bounced back, earning a victory against Tarleton State, 4-3, in the first game of the day after losing to the Texans on Friday. In the second game, the Tigers fell to ULM in a 10-2 mercy rule loss.
"I'm proud of our fight and resiliency today," said head coach Trena Prater. "Taniyah Brown threw a great game one and fed our defense. We stepped up and made things happen on the bases to put pressure on Tarleton State. Game two got away from us after some defensive mishaps and controversial calls."

GAME ONE: Memphis 4, Tarleton State 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In a rematch of a game that took place on Friday, Memphis was the first to score, plating two runs in the first inning.
- Kennedy Semien scored as Tarleton State attempted to throw Kayla Clement out at second base.
- That same at-bat, McKaylee Polk doubled to right center to bring Clement home.
- After a scoreless second inning by both teams, the Texans gained the lead in the third inning after taking advantage of defensive miscues by Memphis.
- Memphis regained the lead in the top of the fifth inning after Faith Brown and Kennedy Semien both scored on a wild pitch that included a throwing error.
- Adebayo had reached on a double to lead off the inning.
- Both sides went scoreless for the final two innings, with Taniyah Brown limiting Tarleton State to two hits over her final four innings of work.
- For Memphis, Taniyah Brown went a full seven innings, only allowing two earned runs while striking out two batters.
- Hannah Blincoe took the loss for Tarleton State. She allowed four runs on three hits over five innings of work.

- At the conclusion of this game, Four Tigers (Zoe Adebayo, Neely Taylor, Kennedy Semien, Taniyah Brown) have an OPS above 1.000.
- In this game, Memphis reached the 100-RBI mark as a team. The Tigers did not reach this mark during the 2024 season.
- Taniyah Brown recorded her fourth complete game of the season.
- Despite not recording a hit, Kennedy Semien finished the game with two runs scored, as she reached on a walk and a hit-by-pitch.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- ULM quickly put pressure on the Memphis defense, plating three runs on two RBI singles and a well-executed first-and-third situation.
- Morgan Brown scored as Hollie Thomas was thrown out at second base by Shelby Durbin.
- Memphis struck back in the second inning, with Aubrey Williams recording an RBI single to score Kennedy Semien.
- Semien had led off the inning with a double.
- The second inning saw both sides go scoreless.
- The Warhawks extended their lead with a six-run third inning.
- Kelsey Kovar produced two runs on a single through the left side to bring the ULM lead to four runs.
- Meagan Brown reached on a controversial call with the bases loaded to plate another run.
- Aubrey Williams was attempting to field a ground ball when she collided with Carys Platt. After the original call was made for runner interference, it was deemed that Williams did not have an opportunity to field the ball, resulting in defensive interference.
- The next at-bat, Morgan Brown hit a double to plate two more runs.
- Hollie Thomas drew a bases-loaded walk for ULM's sixth run of the inning.
- Memphis appeared to prolong the game as a sacrifice fly by Zoe Adebayo cut the deficit to seven runs.
- In the bottom of the fifth inning, Hollie Thomas was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, making the score 10-2 and enacting the mercy rule.
NOTABLES
- Zoe Adebayo made her 100th career start as a Memphis Tiger.
- She currently is first on the team with 10 extra-base hits.
- At the 20-game mark, Kennedy Semien and Neely Taylor are tied for the team lead with 22 hits.
- Semien has the highest average on the team, currently sitting at .400, while Taylor carries a .386 batting average.
- Semien and Taylor are also tied for the team lead in doubles with six.
