Tigers Fall to No. 13/16 Ole Miss in Overtime
Nov 18, 2025 | Women's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's basketball gave No. 13/16 Ole Miss all it could handle on Tuesday night at Elma Roane Fieldhouse, playing level through four quarters before falling in overtime, 73-64.
It was an inspired effort from the Tigers (2-3) in their first matchup with the Rebels in 15 years, pushing their lead up to 13 late in the third quarter, but the undefeated visitors stormed back in the final period and overtime to take the victory.
Chaé Harris again led Memphis behind 24 points and four threes, and Daejah Richmond was just as crucial with 22 points, both career highs for the guards.
Even with the extra five minutes, it was the lowest-scoring performance of Ole Miss' season. The 18th-ranked offense in the nation was held to just 37% shooting and 18 turnovers.
It was clear from the start that it was going to be a hard-nosed, grind-it-out type of game; neither team scored in the opening three minutes. Ole Miss led 4-0 before a 14-2 Tiger run, with six points coming from Richmond. The Rebels (4-0) hit a pair of three-pointers out of a quick timeout, and the lead would change eight times in the first half as Memphis led, 29-28.
The Tiger offense kicked into gear out of the break, led by Harris who had 13 points in the frame including a 5-0 spurt in less than a minute that had the 1,217 fans in attendance on their feet. Richmond's lay-up to end the quarter capped a 23-point frame that saw Memphis take a 52-41 advantage.
The final quarter and overtime were a different story, as the 2024-25 Sweet Sixteen members showed their strength on both ends, holding Memphis scoreless for four minutes and taking a 56-54 lead with 1:52 remaining.
The Tigers would retake the lead with under a minute to play through lay-ups from Harris and Amauri Williams, but an impressive save by Christeen Iwuala led to the game-tying basket from Cotie McMahon, and the game would head to overtime knotted at 58.
After Ole Miss scored first, Richmond would respond with a lay-up to get things level, but it was all Rebels for the rest of game. They won the fourth quarter and overtime, 32-12.
McMahon and Sire Thienou led the way for the visitors with 19 points each. Iwuala and McMahon had 14 and 12 rebounds, respectively, as the Rebels won the battle on the glass, 47-42, after losing it in the first half.
Memphis will be back home this Saturday, November 22, to take on ETSU at 2:00 p.m.
