MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger men's soccer team returns home, where it will host the UAB Blazers Saturday evening at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Memphis (3-4-1, 1-0-0) is looking to build on its strong performance against Tulsa in its American Athletic Conference opener, as the Tigers defeated the Golden Hurricane, 2-1, last Friday. Memphis recorded a new quickest goal of the season as Lleyton Imparato scored his fourth goal of the season in the sixth minute, with an assist from Logan Longo.
This duo connected minutes later as Longo would score in the tenth minute, as Imparato provided the assist.
Longo and Imparato each earned conference recognition for their performances, as Longo was named AAC Defensive Player of the Week, and Imparato took home AAC Offensive Player of the Week. Imparato is tied for first for the most goals in the conference with four. He also sits tied for third in the AAC in assists. Longo also has three assists on the season to go with his three goals.
Filip Sabatti earned his third win of the season, moving to a 3-2-1 record. He currently leads the Tigers with 22 saves in 540 minutes played.
UAB (4-1-3, 1-0-0) comes into Friday's match on a six-match unbeaten streak. Most recently, the Blazers defeated Louisville, 2-1, in a nonconference match on Sept. 24.
Lucas Rizzo recorded both goals for UAB in that victory, as the Cardinals drew the match level in the 63rd minute before Rizzo scored his brace in the 66th minute.
Rizzo and Tony Kim lead the Blazers in scoring production with three goals each on the season. Gustavo Barbosa leads UAB in assists with three on the early season campaign. Between the posts, Jonathan Munteanu has played all 720 minutes, posting a 4-1-3 record and recording 25 saves with a 1.00 goals against average.
This will be the 45th meeting between the Tigers and the Blazers, with Memphis recording victories in the previous four matchups. Memphis holds a slim 23-20-1 lead in the all-time series and has not suffered a loss to UAB since 2017.
Memphis will then travel east to Nashville for a nonconference match against Belmont on Tuesday (Oct. 1) at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
