Mulrooney Adds Getman as Goalkeeper Coach

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis men's soccer head coach Richard Mulrooney announced that Nate Getman will join the coaching staff with a primary focus on goalkeeping.
"We are excited to have Nate join our staff as we believe he will be an excellent fit for what we need on the field as well as off," said Mulrooney. "Not only will he be helping with our goalkeepers on a daily basis, but he will also be assisting in other areas that will help make us even more competitive."
"I would also like to thank Remco for his years of volunteer work for us, as it was a pleasure to have him with us for so long," Mulrooney said of Remco De Jong, who will be moving on from the program after serving as a volunteer goalkeeper coach since 2003. "He will always be a part of the family here and we wish him and his family nothing but the best moving forward."
Getman comes to Memphis after spending two seasons at Georgia Southwestern State (GSW), where he helped the Canes double their win total from 2023 to 2024. Under his tutelage, GSW goalkeepers recorded three shutouts in both 2024 and 2025 after failing to record one the season prior to Getman's arrival.
"I am very excited to join the Memphis men's soccer program," Getman said. "Coach Mulrooney, the rest of the coaching staff, the program and the athletic department have been very welcoming to my family and me. I am excited to get to work with such high-level players, coaches and people, and hope to help continue the winning tradition here at the University of Memphis.
Prior to Georgia Southwestern State, Getman was a U-14 coach and goalkeeper coach with Tri-Cities United from 2021-24.
From 2020-21, Getman served as the goalkeeper coach at East Tennessee State University and took a position as an assistant coach at Oglethorpe University for both the men's and women's soccer programs while assisting in strength and conditioning duties from 2022-23. During his time at Oglethorpe, helped the men's team post six shutouts in 2022 and guided women's goalkeeper Haley Lowell to All-SAA honors with seven clean sheets recorded.
Getman also carries coaching experience with New York Elite FC U-16 (2019-20) as the team's assistant coach and goalkeeper coach.
During his playing career, the Birmingham, Alabama native was a first-team NJCAA All-Region goalkeeper in 2017 and a USCAA All-American in 2019 between his collegiate career at Wallace State Community College, Quincy College and Bryant & Stratton College. He earned an associate's degree in general business/commerce from Bryan & Stratton College and earned a bachelor's degree in 2025.
Getman's family is no stranger to coaching in the sport as his father and brother are both collegiate coaches. His father, Mike, spent 27 seasons as the head coach of UAB, guiding them to seven NCAA Tournament appearances, including a run to the Elite Eight in 1999 and finished his coaching career with the 15th-highest win total at the Division I level. His brother, Ethan, has been an assistant coach with Evansville and Earlham College.
Getman also served as an Infantry Soldier in the United States Army from 2014-16. He and his wife, Tori, have three kids, Cayden, Max and Jaxon.
