Tigers See Success on Opening Day of Samford Hidden Dual

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 51 University of Memphis women's tennis team opened its 2024-25 season with wins over UAB in doubles competition while Emily Meyer and Sofia Mykhailets picked up victories in the singles matches over Samford on the opening day of the Samford Hidden Dual.
"Today's matches marked the first time to compete this year and it was great to watch many of our new players compete," head women's tennis coach Hayden Perez said. "This weekend they will learn a lot about college tennis, and I will learn a lot about them. I am excited about this group, and I can't wait to watch more."
Starting out for the Tigers, Mykhailets and Clemence Thouard defeated UAB's Mackenzie White and Vanessa Mellynchuk 6-2 while Meyer and Rebecca Frant claimed the 6-4 win over Klara Kajabova and Gresi Bajri – taking two of the three matches against the Blazers.
In singles competition, Mykhailets and Meyer came away with wins over Samford's Emily Surcey and Sara Erenda, respectively, but the Bulldogs would come away with the win taking four matchups.
Memphis will finish out the Samford Hidden Duels tomorrow while Alice Amendola and Leonie Moeller compete in the ITA Women's All-American Championships in Cary, N.C. starting tomorrow in the pre-qualifying rounds.
