Tigers Set for Home Midweek with UA-Pine Bluff

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team is back in action Tuesday night at 6 p.m. when they welcome Arkansas-Pine Bluff to FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field for a midweek matchup. Jeff Brightwell will have the audio call on GoTigersGo.com.
The Tigers (18-26, 6-12 AAC) will look to break an eight-game skid and get back in the win column. Memphis went 0-4 last week as they played a loaded slate and lost to No. 16 Mississippi State on Tuesday night before No. 5 East Carolina rolled into the Bluff City and pulled off a sweep.
FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field will play host to the 10th all-time meeting between the Tigers and Golden Lions with the Tigers holding an 8-1 advantage in the series. UAPB (14-29, 5-16 SWAC) has dropped 10 of its last 11 games and comes to Memphis after a series loss at Alcorn State over the weekend.
The Memphis offense is averaging 6.5 runs per game to rank fifth in The American (287). The Tigers' 57 long balls rank second in the AAC and 77th in the nation while their 85 doubles rank 75th in the NCAA and third in the league.
The Tigers' 71 stolen bases rank second in the conference and 46th nationally while their 223 walks drawn rank 63rd in the NCAA to lead The American. Defensively, Memphis has turned the third-most double plays in the country (46).
Junior outfielder Pierre Seals is slashing a team-best .323/.578/.422 on the season with 14 stolen bases to lead the club and are tied for fifth-most in the AAC. His 93 total bases lead the team, and his nine home runs are second-most on the squad. Seals was named to the AAC's Weekly Honor Roll on April 15 after leading the league in hitting (.583 AVG.) with a pair of home runs against UTSA (April 11-13).
Jacob Compton, the 2022 American RBI leader, is tied for the conference lead with 12 home runs and ranks third in the league with 42 RBI. He's slashing .273/.553/.360 to go with nine doubles on the season.
Bahamian second baseman Daunte Stuart ranks second on the team with a .315 batting average and ranks second in the AAC with 15 doubles. Stuart's 41 runs scored lead the club.
Closer Brayden Sanders has recorded seven saves – good for 18th-most in the country and the conference lead. In 23.2 innings, the hard-throwing junior holds a 3.42 ERA with 33 punch outs.
RHP David Warren was named AAC Pitcher of the Week on April 2 after his career outing vs. Florida Atlantic on March 28. He went 7.1 innings and notched a career-high 10 strikeouts to help Memphis to its second conference win of the season against Florida Atlantic. He came back and threw a career-high 8.0 innings April 5 at Rice (3 R, 7 H, 3 K, 1 BB) to help the Tigers win a 15-inning thriller. On the year, Warren is 4-3 with a 5.12 ERA over 63.1 innings of work with 44 strikeouts to lead the squad. The staff veteran has gone five-plus innings in all but three of his starts this season, and seven-plus innings in four of his 11 starts.
Offensively, UAPB is led by Edwin DeLaCruz (.475 AVG, 13 2B, 31 RBI, 10 SB) and Jaylon Nauden (.388 AVG, 2 HR, 22 RBI). Three additional Golden Lions carry batting averages over .300 as UAPB hits .309 as a team.
