Tigers Welcome Rebels to 901 for Second of Two Season Matchups

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team is set to welcome SEC foe Ole Miss to FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field Tuesday night for the second of a pair of season matchups at 6 p.m. in Memphis.
Tuesday's game will be available on GoTigersGo.com via audio stream with Jeff Brightwell on the call and streamed live on ESPN+.
The Tigers (13-17, 2-4 American Athletic Conference) are coming off a home AAC series loss over the weekend to conference newcomer Florida Atlantic. Memphis won a 2-1 pitchers' duel to open the series behind a career night from AAC Pitcher of the Week David Warren (7.1 IP, 10 K, 1 R, 4 H). The Owls went on to take the Friday and Saturday matchups to win the series, two games to one.
FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field will play host to the 106th all-time meeting between Memphis and Ole Miss. The Rebels (18-11, 3-6 SEC) enter the midweek matchup after being swept in Oxford by No. 17 Kentucky over the weekend. The Tigers and Rebels split the season series last year, and Ole Miss won the first matchup this season 5-3, at Swayze Field in Oxford on March 6.
The Memphis offense has lit up the scoreboard so far this season and leads The American with 215 runs scored through 30 games (7.2 runs per game). The Tigers have slugged 44 long balls to lead the league and rank 34th in the nation. Memphis' 61 doubles rank 36th in the NCAA and second in the AAC, while its 274 hits are also second most in the league and No. 57 in the country.
The Tigers' 52 stolen bases rank second in the league and 33rd nationally while their 158 walks drawn rank 31st in the NCAA and lead the conference. Defensively, Memphis has turned the 30th-most double plays in the country (24).
Junior outfielder Pierre Seals is slashing a team-best .333/.595/.439 on the season with a dozen stolen bases to lead the club and rank fourth in the AAC. His 66 total bases are tied with Jacob Compton for the team lead and his seven home runs are second to only Compton.
The 2022 American RBI leader Compton is tied for the league lead in both home runs (9) and RBI (30).
Daunte Stuart is batting .314 and leads The American with a dozen doubles – good for No. 21 in the NCAA. The Bahamas native has scored 32 runs to lead the squad and rank second in the AAC.
Closer Brayden Sanders has recorded six saves – good for 4th-most in the country and the conference lead. His 1.76 ERA in 15.1 innings (25 K) leads the team.
Warren was named AAC Pitcher of the Week after his career outing vs. the Owls Thursday night. His career-high totals in innings pitched (7.1) and strikeouts (10) helped Memphis to its second conference win of the season against Florida Atlantic. On the year, Warren is 4-1 (2-0 AAC) with a 4.54 ERA over 41.2 innings of work with 32 strikeouts.
Seth Cox was named the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Player of the Week on March 18 after a breakout week for the Tigers at the dish, batting .471 and collecting eight hits (four for extra bases) while smashing three home runs and driving in a dozen runs for a staggering 1.609 OPS on the week. He slugged a home run at No. 21 Mississippi State (March 19) and another in a 16-7 win over South Florida (March 22) to make it five home runs in a seven-game stretch.
Center fielder Will Marcy is riding a 19-game on-base streak and is batting .304 on the year with six doubles, a home run and 11 RBI from the top of the Tiger lineup. The speedy N.C. State transfer has added eight stolen bases on nine attempts while fielding 1.000.
Memphis will start left-hander Logan Rushing (0-1, 12.66 ERA) for the second-straight midweek game while the Rebels will counter with lefty Wes Mendes (0-0, 6.60 ERA).
