The Tigers dropped a midweek game Wednesday night at Ole Miss, 5-3, in the first of two matchups with the Rebels this season. Memphis jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning but couldn't hang on as the Rebels rallied for five runs in the third through sixth innings. The Tiger bullpen was a bright spot in the loss as the group of JT Durham, Seth Garner, Logan Rushing, Seth Cox, Kylan Stepter and Brayden Sanders combined to allow just one run on four hits over the final 6.2 innings.
Tiger first baseman Jacob Compton was named to the American Athletic Conference's Weekly Honor Roll for his performances last week, hitting .353 and slugging .882 while reaching base at a .500 clip. The senior from Olive Branch, Mississippi went 3-for-3 with a pair of bombs and drove in five runs to match his career-best total in Saturday's series-clinching win over Wright State. The American's 2022 RBI leader is tied for the conference lead with five home runs on the year and is fifth in the league with 32 total bases while his 12 RBI rank second on the team.
Tiger infielder Daunte Stuart is off to a hot start this season, batting .333 with a team-leading 15 RBI while scoring 17 runs to lead The American. The Bahamas native has reached base safely in all 14 games to begin the season. Pierre Seals enters the weekend with a team-high .353 batting average and 1.143 OPS to go along with four home runs and 10 RBI. Austin Baskin is tied with Stuart and Seals for the team lead in hits (18) and has reached base safely in 27-straight games dating back to last season.
Memphis will roll out its same weekend rotation for the fourth-consecutive weekend. Right-handed pitcher David Warren (1-1, 3.24 ERA) will make his fourth start of the season on Friday against Butler, lefty Luke Ellis (0-0, 5.54 ERA) will get the nod against Presbyterian on Saturday and right-hander Caden Robinson (1-1, 9.00 ERA) will go on the mound against Jackson State on Sunday.
